You miss one fatal point Martian, where men take it on the physical level, women tend to give their payback on the diplomatic level and this means caniving backstabbing tactics like I witnessed with this tarantula of a bitch. Cuz women really can't go on the physical cuz they lack the muscle and testosteron that goes with it(sounds derogatory, but its fact, when have you ever seen women beat each other up, not alot I bet).

The make up and fashion industry is growing even more rapidly for men, when I was a kid there was literally no make up targeted at men, now their is. Men's clothes and fashion weren't a big deal, now you have selection that could almost rival a womans.
Men and women have to compete harder these days, this is due to expectations being higher on both sides. fact is when people decide they want to be happy they will have an easier time finding a mate. The criteria in which humans are competing isn't real, money doesn't make happiness, neither does being the best looking, or being the most connected (influencial, etc) |
Of course men are jealous and fight over women that is our nature. Even today we mostly do it on a physical style though whether it be fighting or finding other ways to compete in front of women. While men's behavior is similar to apes fighting over a female women are much less typical and their actions while normally aren't physical tend to be more planned out.
Monogamy is still quite new thousands of years is actually a very little amount of time. It may seem long to us because of our lifespans but its still quite short. Whatever caused monogamy to be a common thing in many parts of the world caused a very unnatural event and we humans are still adapting to such a change. Which also explains why people feel the need to cheat on their lover.
The abundant supply of fashion for men isn't because of social evolution or sexual revolution rather by the fashion businesses. How long do you think it would take to start marketing to the 49% of the worlds population they have been missing? Of course they market it as a sexual thing that helps get women but thats not the truth. The average woman would still rather go with the muscular man than the "well" dressed man.
Men have it basically the same as our Neanderthal ancestors. We flex our muscles, We show off the saber tooth tiger skins we have (today this would equal out to wealth and the capability of doing the hard work to get it) We show power and dominance over other men IE Alpha males. ( todays standards would be politics, military rank, leadership job positions, leader of a sports team, and the list goes on) Women are indeed still very attracted by this today. When it all comes down to it this is what men still do to this very day.
Women however are still fairly new to this game and the pressure is becoming very tense on them. This causes very unexpected behavior as they have no built in instincts when it comes to this subject. Everything a woman does when it comes to competing for a mate is all new behavior which is still being developed. I noticed that women tend to be more attracted to me ever since I got married. The wedding band means I am taken and makes many women seem to desire me even more. I had a good female friend who instantly became jealous after I proposed to my wife and tried to make me go with her. If you pay attention its amazing how much you will notice women often try to seduce men who are already taken. The clothing, make up, and the millions of other things are all things to get our attention so that we continue to do our courtship dance from them so that they can either accept or deny us.
However denial is much harder on them as we men can just go to another female and do our little dance and hopefully eventually be accepted. Women who don't get any males to dance for them like the woman in Pfiemelcheese experience normally have meltdowns and can even act completely psychotic. She probably let the anger of rejection boil for so long until she came up with a plan. As crazy as it sounds her subconscious was probably saying "this will show him for rejecting me and next time he won't" when her conscious self only said half of that in her head. It was actually a crazy plan to get Pfiemelcheese.
While money, looks , and power may not be what brings us happiness in the end it does create competition and attracts possible mates to help ensure that we will have offspring. We humans try to put a spin on it and say that its something much more but deep down its nature as it always was and will continue to be. Pick the best mate thats most likely will provide the best offspring is the females instincts. As for males... well we are just happy to be chosen for the task.

Going by your post nuclear, alot of good points, and I have something to add to that. I allways noticed how women act different in a work environment. Its as if its their second life, a life outside of their own life with their bf or husband or whatever. They are in fact spending half the time of their lives there cuz I ain't counting the time you sleep, so you have 8h work, 8h time on your own at home and 8h sleep.
So with this in the back of your mind, ofcourse women want this environment to be happy, good, flirtatious, whenever they see a guy susceptible for this they will try and boy have I noticed this already, even married women like to flirt and flirt they do. Some start doing it and when you pick up on and send some lovin back they croak, others just go on and on and on:)
