try lowering the sound hardware acceleration. go to start, run, type dxdiag, enter, sound tab and then lower it.
Didn't work, thank you for the suggestion though. Damnit this game states "Dolby Digital" so it should send the full signal over coax to my speakers but it doesn't do that either. Maybe its the sound card.
I've done more googling and apparently a nice few people had this problem with the demo too, fucking Capcom sloppy bastards @pc ports.
GASP!!! What is this game!!!! I never played any of the prior DMC and now feel like I have missed out! *&%@#*%&$ CONSOLES!! LOL! Probably some of the best cgi cut scenes in any game. It was like watching a movie, if not better. I am going to start the game again so I can watch the beginning again. Best port to PC to date. High production values and a new high quality start for Capcom and PC Games. Probably one of the best aspects is that this game is made for adults. Some of the scenes were truly beautiful if you know what I mean.
The game runs flawlessly with everything turned up. No 1680x1050 which is a bummer. The controls are really nice and responsive. I get the same feeling after playing this game that I got when I played Gears of War for the first time. I just hope all great console games end up coming out on the PC. Even though we have to wait it's really nice to be able to play them. Better late than never.

yeah , just played the first mission! the cutscenes are well done, this game is worth to playjust to watch the cutscenes.... just beautiful.
The gameplay seems great too, some nice combos are present in this game!
Gfx are top notch, well im not suprised, capcom did a great work with lost planet colonies, wich was a great game IMO.
First devil may cry game im playing and im loving it, hope this comes to steam so i can buy it, capcom deserves the money!

You are wrong, me and about a dozen or more people can attest to that with this fucked up sound out of sync of the video and the center channel being pretty much muted. AND their message boards are fucked so its hard to get their tech support.

Not lip sync like gun shots, sword effects basically everything, like I said people had the problem with the demo and Capcom didn't give a shit, ah well.
Does anyone know what files this uses for system settings? I looked at the config files in the main folder but they're full of jibberish.
I'm in windows XP SP3 if that makes any difference.

try entering your sound card's options , it must have options in the driver's menu and try something out
capcom doesn't give shit because it's a minority problem also maybe they're working on it and it's taking time, maybe it'll be fixed in a patch you never know

I've tried a ton of things, 5.1 and this game doesn't seem to mix on XP I'll have to try it on Vista.
@Mortibus what settings are you using for that creative crap(ALCHEMY) you need to make HW sound acceleration work in Vista?
If you're running an X-Fi card you're not going to get Dolby Digital on anything but optical. And you're not going to get 5.1 either. X-Fi cards can only do 2.1 for dolby...stupid eh?
bleh this game looks shitty to me , every enemy looks crappy , camera is a cluster fuck and this horrible music is awful ... another example of a game that has run dry out of ideas
Alright so installed in vista, if you AREN'T using Alchemy then your NOT getting hardware acceleration, this game likes SOFTWARE sound rather than HARDWARE. Its a retarded new trend, ah well it looks alot better in Vista with DX10 anyway.
Can you change the resolution BEFORE starting the game? My LCD monitor cannot handle the default resolution and when I tried to run it....I got the dreaded black screen "not supported mode".

Oh man this game is incredible fun. 1680x1050 4xAA 8xAniso all maxed out in DX10 silky smooth. My new gamepad works flawlessly. Insanely good looking game, every moment makes me say WOW.

Whoa, I'm one crazy dude indeed . But I'm buying the game anyway . That's what bother me, the release date. Although it says 11th of June most of netsale shops postponed it by like two weeks or so? o.O

The thing is that japanese titles sound fine as long as they're japanese and not janglish. There is for instance this anime: Higurashi no naku koro ni. Literary it M A Y be translated as "For as long as they cry". Instead, the japanese translated it into "When Cicadas Cry" ~.~. Better still than acronym GUNDAM in SUNRISE eyes:
