To be honest, while most of the game wasn't that great, you own player character looked amazing in any armor (on high details that is, dunno about your settings FireMaster). I mainly kept playing to see how awesome I'd look in better armor.

The game had a good base I think. But it was the onlinepart that killed it. Most of the developers comes from Blizzard North so we know they have skills. But they was lacking one thing..and that was Blizzards battlenet platform. If Diablo 2 didn't have that solid platform for online gaming that game wouldn't had succeded either.

Nah, the game wasn't anywhere near the quality of Diablo 1 or 2, period.

Although I wouldnt compare the game to D1 and D2, I will say that it had lots of potential, but they promised too much and honestly couldnt keep up with their promises.

You're right in that. D1 & 2 was and is still way better. But Hellgate had some good things to it. While I do not think it would succede in the way D1 & 2 did, I think with a good online platform like Battlenet it would not be in the state it is today.

I just made the comparision because I do not think D2 would have been as popular if it had a faulty online platform.

Of course Blizzard are great to give support to their games too, which Flagship has not really proven to be.

HGL had it coming long way, even from early betas, most people didn't like it. Toss in poor support, lack of additional content, boring long term gameplay and overall dim appeal, no wonder it sunk in the end.

dunno, HG did what i wanted it to do: play like Diablo 2 in 3D.

who needs Battlenet? that imo had nothing to do with its woes. heck a year prior to release i was playing Diablo 2 and people in forums were saying they would pay $10 if Diablo 2 support would add content or to take care of the rampant cheating on Battlenet.

HG just sucked as a MM game, the PvP was mearly duels and had none of the thrills of a real PvP game like EVE Online. there was not enough content... in 9 months of release alls we got was Stonehenge, and it appears Abyss may not even be released.

none of this explains how Flagship tanked... they are saying now 1 million subscribers over 3 regions (US, EU, and Asia).

hopefully someone steps in and takes over at any rate, i think FSS made a great game, now let someone step in and make it a good MM games to go against Diablo 3. i know, fat chance, but HG has an edge in content if it can be utilized in time before D3 hits the shelves.

If they had 1 million subscribers, or even 1 million sales then they wouldn't be shutting down.

Maybe they have had 1 million people play with most of those coming in cafes in Korea where very little income is generated, but they certainly did not sell 1 million copies at $50 bucks a pop + a monthly fee.

We all saw this coming. Everything looked the same and along with the monthly fee killed it. But I really don't think we have seen the last of Hellgate London. To bad, it really could have been something special. I still remember the first pics and I was like this is going to be great. The actual game fell flat compared to the early pics.

actually from the stuff i've read all the rights over the Hellgate brand is transfered to the Habitsoft- there are some things to read at http://hellgateguru.com/

This game was one of the biggest disappointments for me Sad i waited so much for it- and then there was the demo.. and i was shocked by the lack of voice, the strange npc 'sounds', mediocre graphic.. then the full version was much worse, i still played it, i still have it installed but... Sad

I imagine how screwed-up the subscribers feel now Laughing

Or founders. . .

Oh well. Was a gamble. I really believed in the premise of the game and the guys behind it. Lesson learned I suppose. Luckily, it didn't put a dent in my wallet. IU REALLY feel sorry for the ones to him that money is a week's pay.
I'm still curious to hear an official statement though.

I think they really screwed up with that whole item feed system shit. It wasn't even fun finding new items. There were so many restrictions and requirements on everything. That really sucked.

I heard EA hooked in with thier publisher and essentially took a huge chunk of thier potenial revenue before anything had happened and forced 'em to launch earlier and now Flagship studios & ping0 are in a bunch of financial trouble, with mythos now owned by some other people (still worked on by flagship) and EA and the original publisher refusing to bail them out.

Is the game that drove a company out of business good?

Trick question?

No. The answer is no. The game is horrible. It's like the worst parts of the games it wants to emulate rolled into one with complete disregard for what made said games so great.

Flagship Studios today denied recent stories that is has closed, saying that it is still in business - though it did have to lay off most of its employees.

In a statement, CEO Bill Roper had this to say, "It is with deep regret that I must announce that Flagship Studios has laid off most employees. However, the core management and founding team members are still at Flagship. The past five years have been an incredible experience for us, but unfortunately, we couldn't sustain the size of the company any longer."

The company also notes that it still owns the rights to Hellgate: London and Mythos, something that is being disputed by Korean partner and investor HanbitSoft.

Because of its current situation, Flagship will no longer bill Hellgate: London players, nor will it take on any new subscribers for the game. No update was offered on the status of Mythos.

Gotta love corporate America! Fuckin' worthless suits.

I saw this coming as well. I could never see anything special in this game unfortunately.
It was a bad-ass idea in premise, but they could have done so much better.

People like you and weedo crack me up.
You do know that those "worthless suits" are paying the laid off employees a months salary out of their own pockets. . .?
You do know that the reason they shut down is because Hanbisoft was trying to take over the rights to Hellgate London? They saw what a hit it was in Korea and decided they wanted the whole cake.
If your'e so damned against corporate America and (I would assume "The Rich"), go work for a fucking poor person. Sounds like you have part of that disease in your sig, at least the first 3.
