I have my friend's FAT PSP, he asked me to remove the protection so he can run games off his memory card. I've googled tons of hacking forums, but it's still confusing to me which method is the best. The PSP has the 2.81 firmware installed, it looks like there're some methods such as the Pandorama battery, downgrading the firmware to 1.5 firmware... ect

Which method is the best & easiest for me? Got a link please?

I was reading these steps
http://forums.qj.net/f-psp-hacks-9/t-guide-281-303-to-15-downgrade-guide-92517.html

Code:
You need to have a PSP 2.0 through 3.03 PSP (Not OE) to use this guide

How do I check if I have an OE version?

I do have an original UMD of Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories, but don't know how to check if it has the V2.0 updates! How can I check that? Is there a way to dumb the files in my PC or something?

I'm playing with the thing and if everything goes smooth, I'll get me a slim PSP Smile

To answer your GTA question it has to be ULES-000151 , this can be found on the disc label and the spine of the case

For the slim you need the Pandora battery method, cause the firmware is newer and the security holes with Lumines and GTA are fixed.

You can just pay a shop that does these things and then you're all set Smile

I actualy found a shop that selles a pre-hacked slim PSP's. But for my friend's FAT PSP , they charge around $20 for the software hack. But I'd like to test the hacks on this one to get the hang of it since I'm gonna be installing some apps, games and stuff; as long as the possibilty of bricking it is slim though? LOL
I've flashed a number of WRT54G's routers, and I'm good with pcs, so I HATE paying a shop to flash a device with a sofware, ya know.

Is the link in the OP the most current & works for the FAT PSP running 2.81?

Yeah, that guide seems fine. You upgrade to official 3.03, do the software hack with the assistance of GTA and downgrade to official 1.5. Then you can install newer M33 firmware incrementally (note that the REALLY newer ones aren't the best choice for phat PSPs, stick with 3.80 or something)

The slim psp can't be software-hacked Sad
Either do some simple battery soldering yourself or pay ...

P.S.: I recommend you do the procedure while running on (full) battery. The chances of bricking it are really slim, don't worry (but it can be unbricked nonetheless)
