watch Miami Vice or Collateral on HDDVD/BluRay ... dark scenes have an unbelievable amount of noise from being shot in HD.

bluray releases from new movies always look good.
but if its a movie from the 80s it all depends on how much work they did on remastering it.

It's got nothing to do with the format, that's the point. Miami Vice is a professionally made very expensive movie, but even that shows noise artifacts in a few of the low lighting night scenes. An except from a review:
Quote: | Anyway, the 1080p, VC1-encoded transfer is impressive: undeniably, it shows all the flaws of the source material, but the compressionists have done a stellar job with the often poor quality footage with which they had to work. The daylight HD scenes look incredibly smooth, and the smattering of 35mm footage is most impressive, making me wish that the entire film had been shot that way. The night scenes, predictably, showcase virtually every single artefact of digital photography known to man, and it is in these instances that the encoder occasionally slips up, with the minutest traces of artefacting visible in the backgrounds during hand-held scenes with a prevalence of noise. In a sense, it's very difficult to review the image quality of a film like this, given that there are moments that are going to look absolutely awful no matter how they are treated. Therefore, given the lack of edge enhancement or any signs of digital tampering (barring the original photography itself!), and given the obvious high quality of the 35mm elements, I'm going to err on the side of caution and assume that the HD DVD looks more or less as good as it possibly could have. |

Wow, saw it yeseteday and what a movie. Very, VERY dark. Im really surprised that they got pg-13 rating, two-face alone should be an R. Now im starting to think what could rated R batman be. Amazing performances by Bale, Heath, and Aaron. Action is nicely paced, and the movie is just the right length. Very haunting movie, and the transformation by Aaron was great.
Spoiler: | Did not expect for Dawes to die, i never read any comics so no idea if thats what happened in the comics. Really thought those barrels were filled with acid and batman would rescue Dawes but Harvey would take a swim in acid. But she was annoying anyways so im glad she wont be in the next movie. Also I thought they killed Harvey too soon and not really in a spectacular fashion, but i still liked it. Interesting to see who will be the next villain, dont think it'll be mr Freeze or poison ivy since they are trying to be realistic. Joker again? But who will play him, no matter who they chose people will definitely say he sucks. |

Lossy compression algorithms should only be used to convert a final master to a DVD/Blu Ray for end users.
If you want to cut scenes together after filming (which you obviously must) you need do decode and recompress the movie. Want to add some CGI effects? Decode and recompress. Need to recut some scene? Again decoding and recompression.
Every editing step with digital video reduces quality and adds compression artifacts.

Lucky us then. I was under the impression that MPEG4 compression is used like in HD camcorders.

he's overwhelmed by the movies achievement and jealous by Heath Ledgers godlike performance that he decided to bring some popularity back to him by making a bad boy scene against his mother and sister.

Obviously you are a fan so you will enjoy it at least, but maybe not as much as some fans are hyping it. I never judge a film or take an opinion as truth before I watch it, I watch the trailer, see whos directing and take a look at previous work then make a judgement if I want to see it or not even if it has 0.00001 / 10 on imdb etc. |
The thing is that, I'm not so socially retarded that I can't consider others opinions as a valid factor in choosing what movies to watch. If I were to form my own opinion about every movie I'd have to watch every fucking movie in existence, including the shitty ones.
And using trailers and directors/actors previous works is not any more reliable than other peoples opinions.
P.S. Please dedicate your next post to telling me how great your social life is because I honestly couldn't care less.
EDIT:
@Leo
Sorry, I didn't get you dude . Im just really getting tired of those pretentious "Ooh I TeH cool cuz i don't agree with the crowd" fucks

probably because of it not being packed with winrar?
some nukes can be really stupid , and some not
for me if it works it works I don't care about scene rules
the ts looks quite decent for a ts actually great quality ts
but I think I'll wait for the dvdrip or R5 , even if it takes 6 months or more
