I hope themes don't mean just changing the background picture, those aren't themes at all.

Seems like the dashboard update was leaked in some sort of way........ lol!
"Microsoft demand immediate takedown of leaked new Xbox 360 dashboard
The delightful chaps at Microsoft's 'anti piracy' department got in touch with us to demand an 'immediate' takedown of material located in this thread. The respective thread contained a link to megaupload which claimed to have a download of the upcoming 360 dashboard with all the new fancy stuff. Obviously MS is pretty pissed about this and Megaupload has removed the link and we have removed the download link that a poster put up there. Therefore the leak was indeed real and we can confirm that it is of Xbox Live User Interface - Build 7258 as Microsoft's e-mail states."

Whatever, I don't have a HDD yet... but silent console sounds very, very tempting.

I wonder how much space will an install take with the double layer and all, I have 13 gigs free, probably enough for 3-4 games.

Max tree games if all of them are small. X360 games need between 4 and 6,5 GB, depending on the game.

What are 'tree games'? Do they grow on a tree or sth?'

Hopefully not the whole game will be copied to the hdd, just often used files like some textures, models or sounds. No need for all those crappy cinematics on my hdd, thank you.

I meant "three" of course
I doubt that you can install relevant data only and leave cinematics on the disc for old games. New games could include an intelligent install routine where devs specify which files should be installed and which read from the disc, but only if Microsoft adds such a feature. When you install an old game via the dashboard, it obiously can't know which files are important and which aren't, so you will have to install the whole game.
X360 isos are always 7,05 GB. Some of this space is used for the file structure itself and for the copy protection, so at the end ~6,5 GB stay for game data. Most games I've downloaded come close to this limit, but some are smaller (Bioshock and Virtua Fighter 4 with ~4,5 GB are the smallest i know).
I've only seen one (or two) games that store data several times on the disc, namely PGR 3 or 4 (or both of them, I'm not sure anymore). I remember that the soundtrack was stored twice, once on each layer. ASpart from that I haven't seen any redundancy on X360 discs, so don't expect to save much space this way.

From the Leaked NFO
English: (google translation)
XBOX360 HDD Hack
Copy and play games from XBOX360 HDD
In the U.S. domestic guys, BlueB, work diligently because the announced installation disk MS in the release to send.
This is done with the help of a 99% reproduced Leak realized console, which consist of nachempfundenen console components, the 360 allegedly on the same hair.
The system is an OS, based on the structure is based Ping 17.
Much more interesting is the fact that as a small side project "a functioning Ps3 emulator debated whose Funktionialität, due to a new 17 hacks Ping was realized.
Currently running the release title MotorStorm and F1, in the demo version via DVD also on the 360th
But, to surprise all with a 9% higher frame rate than on the house console.
Whether this fact mere coincidence or a result of the faster data transmission of DVD, a technical advantage, will provide further testing.
We will of course be off and you hear about the very latest results as soon as possible.
If you ever have a functioning Ps3 emulator for the 360 appear this would be a deep, but also illegal strike, which Sony worse than ever, the lack of exclusivity would tear.
Up to Date, there are only a handful of Ps3 games, a DVD on the DL and therefore would fit the planned drive installation, as a means to an end, is expected.
Outstanding problem would also be the installation of the Ping OS on a 17 Org Xbox 360, due MSs security measures still completely in the stars, and BlueB new challenges.
We are waiting eagerly to new information from overseas and hope for a safe release of MGS4 and Co.
