you also have to find a publisher in the US to release a game in the US, so that could also be a roadblock.

This is exactly how Gothic 3 should have been imo. I've heard that JoWood is working with a new developer for G4. Spellbound Entertainment if I'm not mistaken. There will also be an expansion to Gothic 3 before they release the 4th.

So far I'm really interested in this game tho.

Must be quite a hardcore RPG then based on the description of the "Realms of Arkania" trilogy on the abandonware website The Underdogs.

This isn´t ROA 4, simply is other game based on the german pen´n´paper RPG ruleset; "Das Schwarze Auge"("The Dark Eye"), with great renown in that lands...

One of the best PC RPGs to date. Even with the current slow loading and handful of bugs, it's still one of the greatest RPGS I've ever played -- and I'm eagerly awaiting the new Enhanced content.

Can`t run it even with the clone + DT. It passes the securom check but crashes right after the intro movie. The message is something like "Cannot load bla bla bla". Sad

I had like 5-25 sec loading times with the patch, and that was with my old computer, waiting for Enhanced version at the moment.

I haven't tried it with the newest patch (like you, I'm waiting for the Enhanced version -- though it's getting harder and harder to resist reinstalling.. heh) so I don't know about the loading times when patched.

Yes, it's based on a Pen+Paper RPG more complex than D&D and the rules were very accurately implemented but the game is so well designed that you won't really notice it unless you are creating your own character in expert-mode.
I just finished the game and it was great overall, besides that you just have one spot from which you can travel instantly and your character doesn't really walk very fast. This and the pauseable combat makes the game kind of slow but very comfortable to play and enjoy. It's far from being an action-rpg.
The replay factor is small though as it's very linear - you can't even go back to areas where you don'T have a quest anymore. There also were some rather boring battles at the beginning, mostly vs. giant rats but it helped to skill the characters for some of the very good battles later in the game. The dialogs are one of best I ever read in a game, I wished they were complety spoken rather than just the first sentence.
Goty for me so far...
(Disclaimer: I played The Dark-Eye Pen+Paper a lot when I was in highschool)

The site says that Drakensang is the fourth game in Das Scharze Auge series in PC(DSA4, not ROA4). All games The Realms of arkania series and Drakensang happen in a common realm named "Aventuria". I strongly recomend you play ROA trilogy, aswell named Nordland trilogy if you like old school RPG games(and if you dont care about grapix).

Yet you think that this game; a linear, party based, tactical combat RPG is somehow more congruent with Gothic 3 gameplay then The Witcher? If Gothic 3 had been exactly like Drakensang it would have disappointed fans even more.

gothic 3 (like oblivion) use a real-time action combat system (as in you swing and miss depending on your mouse skills) , Drakensang is strictly turn based, dice depending.. and yes its "real-time" but thats just an illusion (and probably to make the turn based system more appealing.

Oh and its way harder imo

i kinda have the same "issue" lol. I just finished Mass effect, and now it just seems too slow and boring ^^ and not sci-fi enough lol (so tired of medieval/phantasy setting)...

but for the hardcore rpg guys out there, its a diamond.
