Funny you bring this up, I've had this habit since I was really young and my friend and I have made a pact to quit it in 30 days. Its funny to take notice of how often I really did it. I've definitely cut back recently but its hard to stop all together, especially when gaming and I'm less aware of it.

I do. It's a habit I picked up from my dad I think. But it seems impossible to quit, I always get back to it.

I have been biting my nails for as long as I live but this last year I stopped completely, its a disgusting habit and all thats in my mind now is how much bacteria you chew whenever you start biting your nails. So if you still wanna do it, do it after you wash your hands thoroughly with antibacterial soap, else just watch them bacteria from other people flow all the way into your saliva and bloodstream:)

I don't bite them but they split really bad.

Adopted Children often bite their nails, and of course children who see their own parents doing it. I do not bite my nails, repulsive.

I used to, now it's really rarely, sometimes when I watch some TV series I get bored and bite a bit of nail from left thumb, but that's all.
I saw some older people who bite their nail... nasty I say, they almost have no nails left... But I hate my nails because the skin around them is all cracked up, and its annoying... oh and not to forget, once I bite my nails to the point one of them bleed out, so it was pretty painful to play guitar

Eating packet jelly (yes, raw) helps to stop your nails from splitting. But, as a female, you already know this and have tried it, and 5127 other products recommended by friends, perscribed by your doctor, acquired via a homeopathy leaflet/website, created from a list of ingredients in ancient chinese scripture, bought via dodgy medicine email spam junk mail, thus blowing my recommendation out of the water.

I allways wondered, how come the skin around your nails sometimes looks so fucked up, why can't it be smooth, what can you do about that? I don't have it around every nail, mostly thumb and pointing finger.

You can go to manicure... I wanted to go, but it's kinda gay

You can push the skin back with a towel after a bath. That way it wont rip. Or you can use a cuticle cream which will soften it up and you can push it back with a tool. Some men like manacures.

I've seen it here on TV, some yuppies went to manicure, I got to agree it was kinda strange for me, but I don't know, if it would solve the skin problem... why not?

it's unhygenic , disgusting and overall 'not good' or not healthy , anyway i do it , mostly of boredom or because i hate the feeling on my fingertips after i cut them so i ripp them off or bite them .
and as a sidenote i do that with my nosehair too , some of it i just ripp off , and or i use a clipper , after 2-3 pools i get used to the feeling , it's way better than any electric gizmo

Some people dip their childrens' fingers in chili oil to stop them from sucking them, maybe it can work for nails
For split nails, dip or wipe them with olive oil daily. No more splitting

I used to bite my nails like crazy when i was younger, don't know why i stopped.
I think that you need to make a conscious decision to stop every time you find yourself doing it.
