At the age of 16 a girl uses Kazaa, RIAA goes after her. She admits that she was using p2p but says she didn't know it was wrong at the time.

the court says to RIAA that it needs to prove she knew what she was doing was wrong.

This can mean the difference between $200 fine or $15,000 fine PER SONG!

$15,000 ... how do they even come up with that figure? Cd's are what about 15 dollars averagely and come with maybe 12-15 songs... lets just say 12...

This means each song costs $1.25 each.

This means that she would have to share that single song 12,000 times to reach the worth of $15,000

Need I even say more?

I have never used kazaa but doesn't it have some warning on it after you download it. Limewire does. Can't use “innocent infringement” defense once you except that warning.

I didn't see a date mentioned when she was suppost to have done this.

Honestly though, how fucked up is the system here in that such a grossly unfair fine can be enforced? $15,000 per song? What the fuck exactly? If she was mass-producing and reselling them OK. But that kind of fine is fucking laughable. How do these cocksuckers even sleep at night? Sad.

There are thousands of people that die unnecessarily everyday on this earth, and all they care about is fucking with some teenage girl that downloaded songs that are not even theirs.

Instead of trying to screw little children before they had even started their life, they should find ways to take advantage of the internet and its progress, not try to stop it. A good business man known how to adjust to new economical environments, a one that doesn't - falls.
