But you see, I don't care if people make fun of Israel, Stooz and Skypez (and others) do. That's the problem. US Americans are proud to be such, I'm not. And yes, there's a difference. I live in a small country, they live in a huge ass country that tries to run the world.

To put it simply , you seem to fit right in with the dumb Americans you try sooo hard to lampoon.
I realize you make an attempt to be an edgy controversial poster. And a lot of the things you write may be in jest or sarcastically harsh but it gets a bit ridiculous watching you talk down to people with such venom when you yourself are a hypocrite and quite ill informed as well , in my opinion.

You may live in a small country but it causes big problems for the rest of the world.

And it\'s not about making fun of Israel or making fun the US. You seem to think Americans are responsible for their governments action. But you are quick to distance yourself and absolve yourself for your own goverments actions..

It's easy to talk shit about a country you know absolutely zilch about. Ya I read about Iraq, Russia, France, and my opinion is I don't know what it's like to live there so I don't talk shit about it.

You all think you can just read about this country and assume shit? That's going to get you no where.

As for the educational system, it's not fucked. It's just fine, it's the people who attend it and have no motivation to learn is what fucks the system up. We got all this hip hop, gang fight bullshit attitudes and having that shit in our schools doesn't make it easy for those who want to progress somewhere.

And i no..I don't make fun of Israel. What serious negative comment have I made of the country?

Anywho, im out of this discussion. It's going to get no where. The day people stop letting some shitty youtube videos or dumb news paper article represent the country as a whole it'll be a bright one.

Lol! This sounds like that south park episode. Very Happy

Quote:
Franklin believes that the new country must not seem to be a war-monger to the rest of the world; at the same time it cannot seem to be weak either. Therefore it must go to war, but allow protests. The United States will go to war on one hand, and use protest to oppose the war on the other. He refers to the this as "saying one thing" and "doing another". One member refers to this as "having our cake and eating it too".

But this 'half the country' excuse would only work if the two halves were able to balance each other without the kind of radical foreign policy (you are either with us or against us) that we see being put into action. When election time comes around all those 'rational' people disappear and the sheep are herded into voting booths convinced that the whole world is out to get their country through no fault of their own. Even in parliament, 'half' of the senators republican or democrat don't stand up and say, 'hey hang on a second, we can't go charging into countries bringing down governments we don't like.' And yes, the whole country will be judged on the basis of the actions that it ultimately carries out.

Israel is the most hated country in the world. And one of the main reasons the U.S is so hated is because of its support for Israel

@stooz
Alot of what you say rings true but the American image has been damaged so badly in the past 8 years it would be nearly impossible to change most peoples opinon at this point.
I think it will take a long time and drastic changes in our foreign policy before we can even begin to knock off this bad reputation.
The best thing we can hope for is that the next president is not a complete moron like Bush and that he takes the steps needed to begin to repair our relations with the rest of the world.

nearly all people i know can (and do) differentiate between the u.s. governments actions and the country and culture of the people of northern american hemisphere (yay, canada!). So i would take every overgeneralized critique of the u.s. in an internet-forum with a big pitcher of salt.

edit: and on the point of making fun of other peoples countries. Lighten up. If you actually get offended by somebody bashing your country you have a problem with being too nationalistic. Nobody IS a country. And if you actually do think you are your country, it seems justified to argue that you actually deserve the flak you feel so strongly about Very Happy
So, lighten up everybody. The world is fucked up enough without nationalist idiocy and / or overgeneralized bashing of cultures and countries. Apart from the french of course, they deserve every bit of ridicule thrown their way Laughing

The main problem is that we ˝outsiders˝ only get to see what's happening in USA via news, and they ain't pretty. We are bombarded with all the info with bad Americans on: Iraq debacle, Bush and his government etc. People from USA are asking themselves why do we see them in such bad light? You just have to see Moores documentaries and you'll get my point. Only the bad news gets on our television. I know that there certainly are normal, and smart Americans, but we don't get to see them that often, nor do we look for them. USA gave many good things to humankind, but in the light of recent events we forget about them...

I do not. I often criticize your gov policies but I don't remember generalizing on the people. Actually maybe once here, dumbly saying that most of the people I have encountered while traveling the USA where among the nicer people on earth. Wink

There are probably some few good places to live in USA like LA, NY... but still no free health care (because USA use up all their money on war). RIAA and MPAA doesn't help either Razz

This is a really good post and it is about time that someone posted it.

The type of people you encounter in the states have a lot to do with the demographic areas you happen to be in but they by no means represent the country. For example I notice a huge difference in the people when I cross the border into Washington. The smaller towns have small town idea and a lot of people don’t seem to have a clue about what is going on. Same thing in small towns in Canada.

I have met some really good, interesting, and smart Americans travelling. I can tell you that right now there are quite a few people in NY that think Canadians are a bunch of ignorant, stupid, hicks who live in igloo’s after meeting my Aunt and mom.

SpykeZ

What Euro shows? I know there is Rick Mercer (canadian) that has a few jokes on the Americans but someone with a brain knows he chooses the dumbest Americans to air and it doesn’t by any means represent Americans.

Rick Mercer -- Talking to Americans

I have yet to found any show that would portrait Americans like some kind of retards over here. On another hand I have seen tens of Saturday Night Live 'jokes' with the most derogatory and xenophobic statements about France and "the french".

Well there is Jerry Springer and some of those real life drama court shows. Those shows don’t do anything good for American Image. Saturday night live jokes also points fun at americans altho I can’t give an example.

edit: I thought you were american when I wrote that. French I think.

LoL @ people basing their opinions of a country strictly through whatever corporate media spews on TV.

2nd LoL @ the ridiculous superiority complex found in populations of certain countries.

3rd LoL @ people on here who can throw jabs at the US but won't dare say anything disrespectful about other countries. I hear plenty of trash about other places but I choose to keep an open mind + a lot of you guys in this forum live in those countries so I am in no position to disrespect.

It's easy to hate America and it's easy to throw everyone into one big anonymous pile, if you've never been there.

But sTo0z i think i speak for most people who have visited America (and seen more than just New York and Disneyworld during a weeks stay) that we realize that America is just as diverse as Europe or maybe even more so in many respects.

I love most americans I've met when I've been there however i still hate your politics. I think the difference you have to make when it comes to general slander is if they call America stupid or if they call americanS stupid, the first one is quite correct the second one is bullshit. So there, hope that's a good answer Wink

My main problems with the united states are as follows:

They don't, as a whole, embrace hockey. I prefer more than 50% of a nation to name 3 hockey players off the top of their heads (wearing a TOQUE)

.. Okay on a more serious note.

Survey 100 Canadians and ask them to name 5 states in the united states. I bet more than half answer with 5 states and probably more than 30% can name more than 5.

Survey 100 Americans to name 3 Canadian provinces and more than 50% would probably nail Quebec and Ontario and get lost after that... If they could even manage that...

Of course I'm speculating... but honestly, I think it'd be pretty accurate. I play a lot of online games (MM's) and when talking to Americans all over the USA they really don't know that much about Canada.

Attribute it to school systems? No. I didn't learn anything about the USA other than they pussied out at Vimy Ridge. It's a general introvertedness the country's media and politicians force feed the masses.

Oh, and of course we generalize.

McDonalds is unhealthy... unless you get their salad with no dressing.

Porshes are luxurious, unless you get a dud that breaks down every week...

I could make some more up but they'd probably be as weak as the previous analogy.

Point being, I generalize about American's as a whole; however, I also understand that there will be people that think outside the general consensus of a large body of people. As one of my favourite musicians likes to swoon, "Just understand understanding"
