The problem is it's a "fake" DX10 use, not real. They don't use things like the GS, they just use DX10 to render DX9 stuff faster - so no real reason why not enable the settings for DX9 users that don't mind running them a bit slower in DX9.

Aren't there a few DX10 only features as well?
I thought those wet surfaces for example only worked during DX10.
On the other hand it's good that they aren't locking certain effects to DX10 when those could work just fine under DX9 such as Crytek did.
This is also just a speculation but doesn't AA work better with the lightning mode under DX10, deferred shading or whatever it's called.
(Gears of War used this to enable AA when DX10 was enabled.)
EDIT: Or do you mean that they did lock certain effects to DX10 even though those could work under DX9?
EDIT: Oh and any more info on that Russian leak? everything I've found so far indicate it's a fake.
EDIT: Seems it's real.

they are doing the same shit = crytek did with crysis, blocking very high settings for dx9 without any reason.
This is bullcrap

DX10 is bullcrap. Like wet surfaces wouldn't work on DX9? The only effect that wet surfaces consist of is some sort of "dynamic bump mapping" or something.
Maybe the english version is gonna be leaked soon too then. Don't think there's a lot of difference between pressing russian and english cd's.

Actually I dug around a while via google and a few Russian sites and it seems only one site has the complete archive and it's a torrent site and the guy isn't constantly uploading either, based on comments it'll take a while before more people have the files and then I'd guess it'll spread pretty fast.
Unfortunately other screens confirm that Star-Force is used (Pretty usual for Russian releases.) and there's neither crack nor mini-image and the latest SF version does completely blacklist Daemon Tools so it's not exactly playable.
(Oh and it's a beta version from the 21st July and only 2.4GB so I'm not sure it has all the content or if it's just compressed well.)
As for DX10/DX9 only a few shader effects (Particles mainly and the addition of soft particles for DX10.) should differ along with that wet surface effect so both versions should look fairly identical.

The real russian release is from last RC, so it does not have any protection.
That's why russian publisher is wildly hunting for the people who upload it.

This is kinda complicated, the developers are in Ukraine, and RC was also leaked in Ukraine. Although they do speak russian, it's not Russia, so there is no direct way to get the leakers there.

Edit: Starforce release showed up on mininova, although i guess it's a fake. Only 2.2 gig, no crack, no info.

I think I checked that one, it's a Heroes of Might and Magic compilation.
(Didn't download but checked the folders on the disc.)
Seems this is how the actual release looks.
http://stalkerfansite.extra.hu/stalkerfansite/index.php?m=single&id=205
(Screens and such, it's an news site for Stalker so no actual downloads.)
Also seems that while the Russian version was pushed forward to August 22nd the rest of the world will have to wait until September sixth as Steam and several larger retail stores have changed to that date now. (One extra week, nothing major.)

Why not just show the game, no crack or something?

Well, the first step of a pre-release leak is not a torrent site, but a person along the development, production or distribution cycle. If the developer carried out an investigation along those track and asks for information about everyone who's had that game in their hands, they might come a long way... Something like Ubisoft did with AC.

Yeah I understand that someone must have either taken a copy from the plant where they process these discs or from GSC's office so I'll guess they will try to investigate as this has happened a few times now.
Build 1092, 1154 and 2215 for Stalker (Plus a alpha leak for a really old version.) and now a E3 2007 leak and a leak of the release candidate of Clear Sky.
(If that's what it is, 2.44 GB seems a bit small for a game like this nowadays but again, it might just be heavily compressed.)

Yeah someone in their office is leaking baaaad. Or some hackers managed to get into their systems and get a copy fresh from their hard drives. Either way, they'll have to seriously improve their security measures and screen some people who they might suspect.

There is another upload with a 4.33 GB image, and one with 2,44 GB, seems to be the real deal.

5.6 .. damn. It took YEARS before most of the SF-protected games were cracked properly - now we've got a NEWER version.
I'm still buying this game, but if the English release comes with SF - I won't be installing it until a crack is out.
