Terrible. It reminds me of Hellgate: London, but in space.

Well, its been about ten hours now and I'm through with the game.

- Mini review follows -
Graphics / Engine:
I'm not really a graphics whore, but the game looks more than decent in my eyes. Physics are nice too. Nothing fancy, but it gets the job done.
8/10

Sound
There were a few problems with looping sounds getting stuck on loading a game after you die. The music however is good. It does fit in with the game surprisingly well. I usually have to turn music off quite soon, as they annoy me most of the time, this time around however, the music really improved the atmosphere of the game. Then theres also the usual sound effects. Nothing that did catch my ears there. I'm not really a sound whore either, so sound gets a nice score as well.
7/10

Controls & Camera
The controls - many people complain about it - took about 20 minutes to get used to.. I don't say there is no better solution, but these do as well. The only thing i really missed was the ability to strafe and fire.. Funny enough, the robot does it all the time if you issue move orders after an attack order. This however is only a minor nuisance, as later in the game you will figure out the right combination of specials so you never have to dodge a bullet again Smile
As for the camera.. thats a different story. I did find myself quite a few times struggling to get the camera face the action, as you obviously have to see the enemy to issue an attack order. While the camera handling is adequate, you will most probably have a few "screw you" moments thanks to it.
6/10

Gameplay
First of all, the game is real short. I did play through it in about 10-12 hours. Now even though theres multiple endings, if they are similar to what I've seen, then i can safely say they were only put into the game so they can claim more game hours in total. Let's not jump ahead tho.

The gameplay is bleeding from several wounds. Generally it would be a nice action game, but for some reason they made an "action/RPG" out of it and with that comes a whole lot of expectations. Some of which simply were not met.
The characters in the game are shallow, and this easily might have been an understatement. They just don't try to bring character interaction into the game. Don't even try to talk to characters, its useless.. There aren't many characters to begin with and the most you can get is some scripted dialogs on which you have no influence at all.

The narration was done through data pads. these PDAs scattered around the game tell various events through news feeds or personal log entries. I can't say its an original idea, but at least it's badly implemented. You cant take the pads with you, so once you move on - and you have to move on if you ever want to end the game - the information is gone.. left behind.

The game seems to aim for the diabloesque hack and slash (shoot and blow up) type of gameplay along with a very similar skill building solution, but they forgot a very important addition. What really made diablo great was the always new game through generated maps and the wide variety of stuff you could collect / equip / use. In fact, searching for better items or customizing the ones you have is always a big motivating factor for replaying a game, preferably with the same character over n over again. This aspect is completely missing from space siege. You have about 10 different weapons at your disposal, and about 7 or 8 cybernetic implants. Theres no inventory apart from selecting which weapon you want to use from those you did find, no weapon customization whatsoever apart from upgrading the statistics of the weapons you prefer to use.
4/10

Multiplayer
Actually this somewhat expands the game as the multiplayer levels can be played through with one player as well (turning it into single player essentially). Its about 20-25 levels if i do remember right and they are different from those you encounter in single player mode.

Multiplayer is co-op only as far i know so since there is no pvp option, i myself only look at this as the end game of the game.. some extra levels you can enjoy the high-end stuff in after you completed the campaign.

Again: there seems to be no randomization in the maps in multiplayer either.
5/10

Summarized
So what is this game then? Its basically a 10 hours (15-20 if you add the potential in multiplayer levels) long 3rd person point and click shoot em up game that tries to sell better by pretending to be an RPG. If you are just looking for the first category, that is: 10 hours of shoot em up time, you might actually enjoy this game, as that part is done well. If you however want an RPG in space, you will have a big disappointment on your hands.
Overall: 6/10

My personal opinion is that the game was good once i stopped looking for the role playing in it. I did find the campaign short tho. This however is not the kind of game i will ever install again once i uninstalled it.

Doh.. don't be so negative people.

It is not a bad game. It's just not a game that's built to last. A few months from now, people will not even remember it. It is not worse than the bulk of games released these days.. A quality piece of temporary enjoyment.

I had fun for some 12 hours myself as well. Now I'm off to other, more lasting games again Smile

Try forcing it via the ForceWare. I forced both EdgeDetect AA (12x) and Adaptive AA (Sharp) and it worked like a dream with my 4850.

I've finished the game twice now and yes, the ending was very disappointing compared to how great the game was .. but I can live with that BECAUSE the game was so great Smile

There's some awesome twists too, hehe.

I just don't understand why people are claiming it has no story and was weak. It was thoroughly enjoyable, a great way to spend 12hrs and I had fun playing it. I know that's subjective, I understand that, but there's no way this game deserves the vast amounts of shit heaped on it.

There were some excellent touches along the way and I enjoyed the twists.

Sorry sabin1981...but i could not stand it. I am sure it's the right sort a game for some, but for sure not my cup of tea. As to why...just to fiddly (click click click) and repetitive, graphics are ok at best.

the controls aside the enviroment is VERY repetitive and I mean copy & past at its best but it's still fairly enjoyable to me , not a blockbuster for sure but not boring either

Mediocre game. Maybe the drought of entertaining releases lately has made some of you guys delusional. Laughing

I thought the reviews were pretty harsh so I gave it a try thinking no way it can't be THAT bad. Plain and simple, It's not enjoyable unless you are entertained easily or have absolutly nothing better to do. Laughing
