 Spoiler:

(Google translated.)

EDIT: Patch made it possible to start the "client" via the dedicated EXE file and a BAT or CMD file. Smile
(This was actually done in a early crack with Stalker so if the same thing was done to this unprotected exe it would be possible to run the game instead of entering a console window.)

EDIT:

So that means Starforce doesn't check the exe? Start the client via the server exe without protection? Razz

No there's two EXE files.

/Bin/xrEngine.exe
/Bin/Dedicated/xrEngine.exe
(There's also two DLL files here which appears to be the unprotected versions of the same files in the /Bin/ directory.)

That dedicated file creates a console window from where you can alter your server but you can't access the main menu as it's been disabled.

A early crack for Stalker took this dedicated EXE and enabled that part in effect creating a unprotected EXE so I'd guess the same could be done here if someone had the skill to do it, just a guess though.

EDIT: The bat command is "dedicated\xrEngine.exe -fsltx ..\fsgame.ltx -ltx ..\user.ltx" and you can also use "dedicated\xrEngine.exe -fsltx ..\fsgame.ltx -ltx ..\user.ltx -start server(mp_bath/dm/) client(localhost)" to start a dedicated server on a specific map.

EDIT: File unpacker for those DB files.

I guess this game will be caught up by sceners a lot faster and maybe a crack will follow soon after. Anyway, this game is WORTH BUYING and it's cheap too. I pre-ordered mine for 25 euros, which is about 18 pounds or 35 dollars.

I'm glad the EU release doesn't have SF protection then!

Yah, the game itself might be worth buying, but not when they support crappy copy protection like this.

£17.99 from Play.com

I've got mine preordered, since;

A. I love STALKER.
B. I'm not waiting for this new SecuROM bullshit to be cracked.

Word. Same reasons here.

Quit bitching about the protection if you "love" the game so much. Just buy it for that dirt cheap price.

I don't love the game, I can wait 3 years for it to get cracked. I will never ever buy a game which I can only install 3 times.

If they had unlimited installs with this protection I'd buy the games I want.

Actually, all the current "online activation" protected games give you BACK one of those three activations when you uninstall it.

(Unfortunately, I've lost one of my Mass Effect activations because I forgot to uninstall it when I reinstalled Windows)

Yah, there are some cases where you won't be able to uninstall the game, and thus might end up losing activations. Not to mention that it's probably going to suck if you find yourself wanting to play the game again in, say, 5 or even 10 years time, and find out their activation servers have long since gone offline.

"If I buy something, I'm entitled to use it for as long as I fucking want."

What you buy is a license for the game. Then you have a nice EULA to read before you install, you don't agree with it just press "Don't agree" and see were that gets you. You don't own the games you buy you licensing it.

Doesn't matter, I'm buying a game, you can label it however you like, but what I'm buying, is a game. I expect to play it whenever I like, however many times I'd like, and wherever I like.

EULAs can suck my dick if they don't give me those privileges. Thus, I will never buy a game that supports such a fucked up way of treating their buying customers.

Yeah, and what does that serial number give me? Access to play the actual game. Thus, I'm not buying a serial number, I'm buying a game.

Just like how i buy a house if i get my keys changed to a new lock, cause the key gives access to the house.

So i'm a fanboy because i'm a retard because i "support" online activation? lawl. Like Sabin stated above, reinstalls get "refunded" after an uninstall. Now i know that doesn't work in *ALL* cases, but it works 95% of the time.

To go on with the "house comparison", the house isn't yours. It's state property. They can throw you out with a good reason, just like the devs/publisher can lock you out from playing the game upon suspection of copying/piracy because it's THEIR property. Changing locks on your house doesn't make it yours, it gives you access, just like the cd key. If you don't pay your mortgage, you can't enter your house. If you disobey the law, you get kicked out. If you don't pay for the cd key, you can't play the game. If you disobey the rules, you get locked out. Simple as that.

So quit the "it's just not fair" crap, it's as fair as anything on this planet if you just follow the rules accordingly.
