Quote:
Ubisoft has shown no qualms with acquiring development houses in the past couple of years. Among its buys in 2007 was Anno publisher SunFlowers, along with a portion of the city-building franchise's developer, Related Designs. Putting its purchase to work, the French publisher announced today as part of its presence at this year's Leipzig Games Convention that Anno 1404 would be released worldwide for PCs in March 2009.

Anno 1404 takes the long-running strategy series to the Far East. As with previous installments in the series, gamers will be tasked with establishing a civilization and then solidifying its position in history. Players will be required to cater to the tastes of their denizens, as well as play politics with other cultures to secure the best lot for their people.

Aside from the new setting/era, the most readily apparent difference between Anno 1701, released in 2006, and Anno 1404 is the game's graphics engine. Ubisoft has tapped like-minded city-building strategy gamers Blue Byte--creators of The Settlers: Rise of an Empire--to create an all-new engine to power this latest installment in the Anno series.

Very good news, Anno 1701 is one of the best and balanced city builders, very underrated.

Yes. I wasted 4 hours playing it the first time I installed it... Didn't feel time fly at all. Razz

I still play anno 1701 once in a while with my friends.

We're really just racing to be the first to reach whatever goal we picked, but we don't ever use military. It's still challenging enough and it's great fun when someone controls mostl islands with a certain resource and in turn is lacking another resource so there's lots of trading going on.

can't wait for this! At least Anno has always kept it's charm and is still as much fun as when the first one came out.

That's in contrast to Settlers, which is a whole different game nowadays and is horrible compared to settlers 2 (at least in my opinion) :/

Must say that Anno 1701 was one of the most boring games I have ever played.

anyway, i was thinking when a new Anno will show up on the radar Very Happy

Maybe he's a 14 year old kid with attention span of less than 5 minutes, that would explain why such games are boring to him.

heh...

Anno 1701 really sucks you in after a while though. Time flies by and before you know it you've been playing for 5 hours straight.

There's a reason they put in that guy that pops up and tells you *You've been playing for 2 hours now, maybe take a break?*

There are mini images for both original game and expansion that work with latest patch, as well as german crack for latest patch for original game which works for english version too. There is no crack for expansion that i know of. I just stick to mini images.

Everytime someone doesnt like some game you like, you call them a kid and insults them.

I do have to admit when I first started the Anno 1601 I really sucked at it and needed cheats to see green numbers.
Now at 1701 I do understand the goal of the game and I find it pretty cool to play, tho it does get boring after hours and hours of playing. But then again, what game doesn't.

But that still doesn't make someone who doesn't like this game a kid...

Installing 1701 again, I never played the others because I never knew about em.

I have no idea what the goals are in Anno 1701, I never really play offensively, I mostly just build cities n keep people happy... Dunno why the games so fun, but it is.

Some screens, minor engine details (DX10 for example and it seems to really like multi-core CPU's) but primarily a benchmark of different hardware.

(EDIT: Note to self, read graphs better. )

Then why does Q9650 outperform i7 965ee in 1680x1050 test?

But screenshots look stunning, can't wait for this and Tropico 3 Smile

Sorry, you're right about that as I misread those graphs.
(Speed usually ends up winning, quads are fine of course and I'd recommend them above dual cores but they're also very expensive, especially at higher clock speeds and those multiplier unlocked ones.)
