Is it just me, or is the NFOrce community ceasing to be intelligent people, and once again splitting up into the angry and the gloating?! Neither of those does much good.
If you want to bitch about your Steam account being revoked, there's the bitching forum, there's Valve's forums, and there's elsewhere. Pick one, and go there.
If you want to gloat because the one game you legally bought in your life turned out to be the one game you were in danger of somehow being punished for pirating, for fucks' sake... get over it.
The constructive types of posts I could see being put here:
- Instructions for removing ban/restoring account
- Instructions/link to instructions on getting online access to your LEGALLY bought games.
- Instructions for not getting caught
- Anything else that is not either bitching or flaming
This bullshit is seriously unlike NFOrce peeps. Take it to slashdot. |
It seems painfully obvious that if you attempt to "trick" the steam authentication servers you run a high risk that you might get banned. If fucking Ponygirl 2 had some sort of remote authentication thing that could be tricked I would be saying the same thing. The fact that I bought HL2 is irrelevant.
As for the rest of your post, this is a DISCUSSION forum, it is for DISCUSSING things. Whether or not Valve were right to ban users who attempted to pirate their games seems an incredibly relevant topic for discussion in this thread/forum!

The former, once again, please, Bitching forum. The latter, please, once again, the Apple forums. Anyone with anything to say that is not a complete waste of time, I'm listening.
And FYI I was one of those who tried the seeded Valve code.
While I do give props to Valve for brilliance, and am still trying to give myself a good kick in the ass for stupidity, dynamic ip + empty Steam account means that neither Valve nor I won anything more than wasting ~3 minutes of each other's time.

Seriously though, did any of you bother to read the user agreement for steam. It states in there that they have the right to revoke your account if they deem it necessary. So it's entirely legal, they just pwned you.

You bunch of goofes, didnt you expect valve would ban every pirate, did you forget last year someone stole the source engine? if that didnt happen we would play hl2 for a year, instead of that valve has declared war to all pirates and had a year to think about security issues, they dont care if you have bought hl1 or any other valve game legally. they see all the pirates as enemies, and don`t come whining because valve "stole 50dollar" from you, must have been your own fault. if you steal something in a store you will also get a boycot even if you have bought lots of things in the same store in the past so its completely legal and understandable that valve is boycotting thieves.
And now all those people who are banned are whining? You just should have know this would happen after what happened with valve. its war for them!!!

to address some misconceptions in your post. Valve didnt delay hl2 because of the source code theft. They did it, because they werent anyway near finished. They also planned to fuck everybody in the face with steam for a long time before that. I can understand everyone who pirates this game... ...i m still waiting for my collectors edition so i dont mind playing the proper instead |

Not feeling too good today, so I wont read all of the rubish posted. Just a few points:
1) The original HL is still playable without steam.
2) Valve have every right to ban an account from steam as doing so is not taking the game from you (speaking to those upset about losing HL1), it is removing its online capability through steam. You didnt buy the game with steam, thus you have no rights to complain about steam being removed.
3) Those who did get banned deserve just that, you stole from them, and they are not stealing from you. You had a good 6 years of Halflife time and now your being banned for something you didnt pay for and have no real rights to. Its like being banned from google.com, you dont have the right to use it, someone just lets you.
