What original are we talking about? I played it on C64 a long time ago and it seems like a bad remake. Too childish, too easy and too simple. What really annoys me is that there isn't any speech. It's seems this game was put out in a rush to catch the shopping spree.
Fun for a few days, but nothing more. Could have been a lot more...

There are varying diffeculty levels, the first time you start the game tis tutorial-ish. Start a new game.
But I'm playing on the second highest diffeculty level and converted half the map to Dutch cities :S
If you choose swordsmanship as your proffecionsy (sp?) and get some swordsmanship boosting stuff, fighting enemy captains/officers is WAY too easy.

wrong!
How can you board a ship if its clipped inside a fort? , how can you hit the ship you want if its clipped inside another ship?
THINK MAN THINK! |
Exactly... LITTLE/NO bearing on gameplay.

Where the hell is your first family member located (the sister)? I have the full map but i can only find 1 knife rock (she is suposed to be on a island that has a knife rock right beside it) and she is certinally not there. The island i mean is the island with the city "port royale" or something like that.
I have sailed all over the fricking world multiple times but I just cant find the location :/

doesn't the map say "search north/south/east/west/near <cityname>" at the bottom?
i'm kind of stuck in the same way, trying to find montalban's hideout, the map says search north of vera cruz or whatever it was, but there is no visible landmarks on the map that i can see when i'm sailing, and if i go to land there is none of the stuff that's supposed to be there

So when you first start a new game the difficulty is set to easy or the tutorial starts? That's strange because i didn't notice a tutorial at all, but the game is too easy, i really have to start all over again now too choose a harder difficulty level?

You have to start over. The first time isn't really a tutorial, its just extremely easy, that's "Journeyman" diffeculty level.

I devided the plunder for the first time now, and was able to set the difficulty from apprentice to journeyman.

The crew's happiness decreases as they spend time at sea. After several months they'll get upset because they already want their share of the booty, so you have to go to a town and divide the plunder.
About the wind, it's a realistic feature, since it blows in the west's general direction in the Caribbean. Why is this? Because the wind comes from the sea, the east. There's land on the west.

Yeah it does but south west from where it says is impossible for me to go..........
It says south east from one of the cities at the bottom "C something".
It's driving me insane ;/
And it seems like the locations can be random so it would be hard for someone to tell me where it is unless they got the same spot when they played :/

Great game but not a patch on the original. Also too corny looking. The main character looks like a star from a Japanese hentai porn film. Still it turned five hours into two for me this morning.

Mmm, this game was pretty fun and addictive but after a while it feels to repetive. Ships could be much more detailed while in battle. Same with the ports as there aren't so many objects in the surroundings that would slow down.
I remember I was playing a very similar black and white game on the Mac when I was a little child. Is this the sequel?

I have a 9500Pro and i am using the 4.10 cats and never had a bsod or any other problem at all.
Another question:
Some towns do have forts wich fire at you while you sail by them and you can fire back to them. Does this have any effect at all? I know in the original Pirates it was different. You had a special battle map there you could fire at the fort untill it had no cannons and men and sail into the city and finish the rest off. This doesn't seem to be possible anymore. I always have to attack cities from land, even if i sail right into the city.

A-A, never heard of those drivers before. How are they in other games, considering I play pirates about 2% of the time
