Afaik the firmware is backed up and the procedure stops if the key doesn't look correct.
I done a Hitachi47 a couple of months a go, it was by far the easiest one I have done so far.

if you managed a 0078FK without problems the 47 is a cakewalk...
Behold his GLORY! Bow for the technical master!

How true. The Hitachi drives are far easier than the Samsungs.

ok it worked, but ...
my friend and I had some kind of fear
so we got the drive in mode b. easy with the slax cd, first time, it worked.
we had to eject the drive when spinning disk appeared. slax continued to load.
we reboot, then under vista, the drive was detected in device manager.
we didnt see windows detecting it, it was already there. maybe because we had one hitachi (the other one, the 78 )
then we extracted the c4eva firmware :
check the log :

wow, I was breathing again even if it didnt find the file CHK59B. I guess it was a drive not found error. so no worry.
we noticed the drive was open, so we closed it.
then we decided to try again

Console boot and tada ! We loaded a backup, the disk spinned, Rock Band ! héhé
Now the original, it's working too.
Thanks to everybody who answered in that thread and of course the Nespresso system but flashing an ms28 or a benq was better for my heart
