Don't buy the TN-panels dude. You'll regret it.

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Well I would say a TN Panel is ok for gaming and watching some films and what not, it also normally have faster reaction times. PVA is the better choice if you really care about vision angle and "true" colors etc.

I am getting a Dell 30" later this year (when the Mrs allowes me some extra cash ) Thats a S-IPS (true 8-bit), TN is (6-bit)

Basically the color quality and image angle of both S-PVA and S-IPS are superior compared with a TN screen. But again, depends what you want it for. For gaming and such a TN panel is ok...only my opinion.

Read about it here WIKI LINK

Ya I did some reading, I've got a samsung already, I've never had any issues with colors being off or shitty.

I know what you are saying there. Its relative of course, if you put a TN panel next to a S-IPS you would see the diff, but as I said for gaming and the occasional film and what not a TN panel is ok.

Had 3 Samsung's 19"TN, 22"TN and now a 24"Syncmaster 245B also TN. I have no issues here, but we have a couple of DELL's 3008WFP at work...can't really say I see any difference other then that its big. But I am sure if I put my 24" next to it I would see a difference. If you work in Photoshop a lot or are a hardcore movie watcher with high standards, sure, a TN panel would not be your thing.

Man don't listen to the TN nay sayers. People just regurgitate bullshit they hear on the internet. Picking a LCD is totally dependent on your needs.

TN panels may not have the best color reproduction but honestly for the average joe it doesn't matter. Everyone who bashes TN's main justification for hating them is viewing angles, as if you sit at a 4829 degree angle from your screen at all times for it to matter. Rolling Eyes

Get what suits your needs. I think TN's are well rounded given you are not anal as the other two have their flaws in media oriented situations. They work perfectly for what they are, I haven't heard of any of the 24' TN buyers come home and say "Oh my god, the colors suck" Laughing

If you tolerate less quality, then obviously TN-panels is the bomb.

Some people just have higher standards, that's all.

If you factor in the price difference between a TN and S-IPS than it's a much more difficult decision. I'd rather save the money instead of lavishing in my wonderful desktop backgrounds vibrant colors. Laughing

Besides if you are in a field where you work with Photo's/Editing buying a LCD to handle those tasks really isn't a good idea to begin with.

TN's have come a really long way, there is too much negativity toward them based on how horrible they were in the past.

I just bought a BenQ 22" LCD for 150€ and it works perfectly fine. Who cares if the colors aren't as great as they could be or the contrast isn't as high as it could be.

It displays stuff and it does that well enough. I already own a 22" Samsung that cost twice as much and I regret not buying a cheaper one back then as well because there's barely any difference.

if you're buying a less than awesome monitor and plan on watching movies on it, atleast calibrate the blacks to visible range
i bought an ok monitor and even i had to compensate three points to see the full color range
it's nasty when watching movies with dark scenes and you see a visible edge around objects on where they drop out of display's visible range
and in games aswell

http://www.persiist.com/monitor/blackpointcutoff.png
look at that closely with your favourite picture viewing application in fullscreen so that there's no gui visible
you're supposed to see a square for each color, each number
it's very dim for 1, but should be visible
if you only see the bars extend from the right up to a certain number, that's where you have to compensate to
i'm writing this on my sister's crappy laptop and it extends only to 4, so this display has even worse blacks than my own

http://www.hex2bit.com/products/product_mcw.asp
this works
unfortunately it doesn't allow numeric input, but one press of an arrow key is always one color value
save the profile and set it to load on system startup

downside is that this uses the videocard's gamma and thus breaks gamma in many games, so you might have to close it when playing some games with odd gamma values, but nearly all have been fine for me by default so far

I got a Samsung 226BW with a TN panel and believe me I have absolutely no problems with it. In fact I fucking love it and I do not have a problem with it being a TN panel at all.

While I was sleeping over at cousins place I had a look at his TN, and hell, it sucked. I didn't notice anything worng with colors, but that's most likely because i didn't had side to side comparision, but the viewing angle was incredibly crap. Infront of my PVA Angles are great, but that TN lost most of it's colors if You moved a little to side.

Again, do you sit at an angle in front of your monitor? I don't understand those complaining about horizontal viewing angle and how it's a problem if you sit at a desk in FRONT of the damn thing. It's like everyone who complains about viewing angles doesn't own the panel and was a spectator of something going on like a game or movie 2 rooms away to the side. Laughing

I can understand the vertical viewing angles being a problem, especially on on 24 inch screens because if you sit a little lower the top half of the screen dims.
