NFO doesn't mention a key or crack?
Does the expansion have a key check for multiplayer?

Note:
It is recommended you have the original painkiller installed to play this
expansion. However, by starting the installer manualy you can install it
regardless of its presence.

My guess is it doesn't matter for single player, but the expansion is supposed to enhance the multiplayer of the original.

Apparently the game does not need a crack, I'm not sure if it just does not a CD in the drive period or if there's no protection. I don't have the original Painkiller but I played through the first level without any problems.
