I tried the xbox360 leak for a bit and it's ok.

I would have definitely preferred it the way Black Isle wanted to make it, ie making it look awesome but oldschool isometric style at the same time, kinda like Diablo 2 > Diablo 3.

As others have mentioned, the third person view sucks as your characters running animations are extremely awkward, as always, thanks to bethesda...

The VATS system is pretty cool though and blowing limbs off in slow motion is pretty satisfying and doesn't get old as quickly as I expected it to.

While the view distance is extremely high, the world does seem pretty lifeless and boring.

They improved some bad things from Oblivion though. For example, NPCs talking to each other make a little more sense this time around. Like... they actually use their names in conversation and talk about meaningful things in the current situation.
There also seem to be more voice actors, which is great, as the amount of voice actors in oblivion was ridiculously low and you'd have NPCs change voices in the middle of a conversation and shit like that.
You can also give your male characters some facial hair this time around, which is a nice addition, and the NPC's faces are a bit more normal. There are also NPC kids around which wasn't the case in oblivion I believe.

These are just my first impressions, I'll obviously have to play it some more and see how things evolve, and if you have some meaningful choices (other than blowing up the bomb in the middle of the settlement, which they have talked about so often)

If you try to shoot one of the kids what happens? your gun jams? Very Happy

Can you use your guns inside a bar and kill everibody?

Not that i would do that (most of the time Rolling Eyes ), but its about the freedom of choice, and its consequences.

They just run away, which is pretty stupid considering you can have weapons like the Fat Man.

Gee, thanks for letting me know.

I played the originals a decade ago, hell played Wasteland back in 1991. I guess I'm not capable of deciding for myself if a game is for me or not. Luckily I have Epsilon here to make my decision for me. Rolling Eyes

Didn't have a computer? Back in 1991 there really wasn't one in every home like today.

wasteland was pretty cool back then. i tried replaying it a couple of years ago, though, but i failed to muster enough patience to get too far.

regarding F3, what about the density of scorpions, deathclaws, etc, that some reviewer was complaining about? does the game have some lonely exploration, or is it stuffed full of enemies and npcs?

i hope it's not gonna be another stalker CS, which ruined exactly what i loved most about SOC. the atmosphere/mood.

I've seen conflicting reports. One review said he could go for a while and not encounter anything while another said he couldn't.

My guess is there is areas of both and if you go into a high-traffic area like downtown then it may be populated but the outskirts will be desolate.

sounds perfectly reasonable. now the only thing left to see is how hard will it be to score some of that sweet not-morphine. should be a good enough mood improver.. for those lonely nights out in the desert, with deathclaws howling in the distance.

Yup another letdown, nothing to do but sit and wait for the mods:

I just got the October issue of swedish PC gamer and they have a review of the PC version of fallout 3.
In short:
score: 81%
Pros:
VATS
SPECIAL
Megaton at night
Cons:
A feeling of lifeless backdrops
Lifeless/stale Characters
To much on a too small area

Its Written by Joakim Bennet, who has proclaimed love for Fallout many times over the years he has been at PC gamer sweden.

Other short stuff(not quotes):
Vats is great, realtime combat isnt. The realtime combat (damage/hits etc) doesnt seem to be in sync with whats happening on the screen.
HtH combat in 3rd person is just as bad as in oblivion
Bennet misses the world map, random encunters, the empty wastes.
AI isn’t great. Enemies running in circles and no reaction from NPC that gets hot from a long distance is quite common.
You can pick up anything that isn’t bolted to the floor.
The SPECIAL system and Perks works great

Fallout2 got some 80s as well: http://www.metacritic.com/games/platforms/pc/fallout2?q=fallout

Don't base your opinion on a single swedish reviewers words

PC Gamer France gave it a 93%

Italy Gamer gave it a 91.

The game will score well in reviews, but does that even mean anything?

No.

Generally I agree with you but if the game gets a low score, like the person who brought up the 83%, then all of a sudden it's a good review.

Just goes to show that people will read what they want into anything.

Don't like the game? Bad reviews are good and good reviews are paid off.
Like the game? Bad reviews are bias or don't understand and good reviews are good.

Reviews are worthless. Play the game and judge for yourself.

What did they fix it's the same bloody engine with the same bloody flaws, look at this game

when you talk to someone people are actually MOVING and doing their stuff in the background they are not being attacked by Mr. Freeze, there is camera panning it looks like a movie and the game is from 1999, they couldn't even fix that fucking Bethshita, god this pisses me off, haven't they played Mass Effect every game uses that it's realistic and the dialogs are more enjoyable.
