why? there's like 80 enemies there and its zoomed in etc. plus physics worked amazingly well, and things burnt nicely etc. just because it lagged u didnt see stupid things like enemies falling through the floor like most games would.

Hey, do you guys no how to select the start up 3D menu that loads? When HL2 is very first loading it displays a different pic (3D sceen) than before and would like to know what files they are so I can use the one I want. I know it changes as you get further into the game but thought I could just start a new game then reload and it would display the very first Menu pic but that didn't happen.
Thanks

Very good news again!

Quote:

Vivendi Universal has recently released information on sales for Half-Life 2 on their website, and despite only being out for a little over two months, the game has already managed to sell a whopping 1.7 million copies worldwide.

Half-life 2, the follow-up to the hit 2000 Half-life, is already clocking up a massive success. With nearly 1.7 million copies sold in less than two months, this new release by Sierra Entertainment (a VU Games company) and Valve looks set to become one of the biggest hits of 2005. Sales have been particularly good in Germany, the UK, France, Italy, Spain and Scandinavia – as well as the US.

It is unknown whether this number includes Steam sales, though it isn't likely as Vivendi probably wouldn't monitor those figures, only being in charge of retail distribution. Still, it is rare for a PC game to sell this high a number in such a short time, so congratulations to everyone at Valve and Vivendi Universal.

Update

Quote:

Half-Life 2 Clears up at AIAS Awards
The Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences held their 8th annual awards show in Las Vegas last night, a ceremony dedicated to recognizing and awarding outstanding achievement in the entertainment software industry. It shouldn't come as any surprise then that Half-Life 2 picked up the most awards there, receiving a total of 9 out of the 39 awarded. Half-Life 2 and Valve managed to walk out with the following:

* Game of the Year
* Computer Game of the Year
* Outstanding Achievement in Art Direction
* Outstanding Achievement in Animation
* Outstanding Character Performance - Male
* Outstanding Achievement in Game Play Engineering
* Outstanding Achievement in Visual Engineering
* Outstanding Innovation in Computer Gaming
* First Person Action Game of the Year

This isn't the first time the Academy has recognized Valve's work either; the original Half-Life managed to win 7 awards at the 2nd annual show. Congratulations to everyone at Valve Software for their success. I wonder if someone is keeping count of these things...To read the rest of the winners, click here.

Off course you will need to buy the game if your cd key won't cover it.

Updates

Quote:

A small update to the Source engine has been released over Steam, fixing some known exploits. The changes are:

* Fixed "exec" exploit that used ":", "\\", and ":" in the paths
* Fixed exploit with "record", "bench_start", and "logsdir"

As usual, to receive the update, just restart your Steam client.

Over the next month or so there will be a couple of interesting releases via Steam, in addition to the upcoming Counter-Strike map de_compound.

First, we'll be releasing an update to Half-Life 2: Deathmatch that will include the Slam, Stunstick, and the Crowbar. We're not ready to release the contest winning maps just yet, but we will be releasing a new map we've built at Valve to tide people over while we sort out the contest winners. There will also be a release to Counter-Strike: Source around the same time that will address a few minor issues.

One feature that we'll be adding to the Source engine in the coming months is high dynamic range lighting. To showcase this we've taken a part of the Highway 17 chapter of Half-Life 2 and worked it into a single level that incorporates HDR along with some new gameplay. We're calling this short level "The Lost Coast," and it will be made available free of charge to Half-Life 2 customers that meet a specific set of high end hardware requirements. We'll be publishing those requirements soon.

The concept art pics of the new map are located at http://www.halflife2.net

"Today, Valve software announced several neat new things coming down the Half-Life 2 pipeline, the neatest of which is the inclusion of High Dynamic Range lighting, or HDR, an effect that gives light a very realistic glow. Many of you have probably already witnessed an early technology demo that featured this tech, yet it didn't make it into the final game. Well, Valve is not only adding it to the Source engine, but showcasing it in a new level called "The Lost Coast."

Looking forward to this.

Hey ppl.

I have the HL2 Vengeance 5CD Retail release.

I played the Emporio release when i played it before, and d/l this release later. I was going to go and play it again but I dont seem to be able to get this working?

I put CD1 in and installed the game from the setup.exe on CD 1. That installed steam (ing dungppile) and HL2. Then i wen to the Venageance dir on CD 5 and ran that installer, which flisked up a DOS box so quick I couldnt see exactly what it was doing, and then it was done.

I went to run the game using the HL2 icon on desktop and nothing happens. Actuualy in the process list in Windows Task Manager, steam.exe appears when I try to run the game, but apart from that nothing happens.

Cant anyone tell me where I am going wrong here?

I did all the readme said, but doesnt seem to run?

Thanks.

here's the solution. download steam, enter your credit card number and the buy the game. it's that simple. unlike most games this one is actually worth $50.

If it wasnt for Steam i would. Not buying it while Steam is a part of the package, disagree totally with that shit.

I did buy Doom 3 though and that was worth the money.

Does anyone have the answer to my question?

Thanks.
