OMFG! He's just not normal... I mean, that's sick! He should at least try to get a life... There are hobbies that include outdoor as well... Just sad to see what human beings have evolved to...

snap judgments? You think that he's normal? Playing games is ok, but for it to become the center of someones life... that's sad...

I blame peoples lazyness and unwillingness to think for themselves and to participate in the real world (who could say that it can be fun too...)

Anybody could say that about any hobby. Or even work. Yes, it was a snap judgement - he could be a millionair with a very succesful company, playing it only 6 hours a week.

No offense, dingo_d. Not meant specifically towards you. I just wish people were a bit more open minded towards each other and not make judgement about an entire persons lifestyle and persona based on a small news article. I see it happening too much.

Yep.
Also,
I'm curious as to where many people think he got all the money from? He obviously can afford all that shit.

hahahaha, i love it. The guy obviously lives the nerd-dream.

I think that it is way more spectacular to see someone do what he loves with a dedication and passion like him as seeing a multitude of people showing off their "real life" achievements like big houses and ferraris to others. Sure, the feeling of achievement that an rpg delivers is based on a different set of skills than what you need to be great in a job AND it is basically virtual (meaning you cant touch anything of what you have gotten through WoW). But the joy one can feel by being great in a game is real. So fuck all those preconceptions and be happy for the guy. At least he seems to be.

I just think that we are, for some unusual reason, given the chance to do sth with our lives. It seems, to me, like a total waste of time and life, to be addicted to sth that isn't real and don't contribute to anybodies life and prospering...

Yes he enjoys playing games, but you can also find pleasure in real life: go for a walk outside, talk to your friends, be in love etc. That is something that can enrich your life, and make you a more complete person in all.

Seems to me that he closes himself to his little world because he is unsecure person. He hides himself behind all of those screens, because he doesn't want to face the real world and all the bad things that comes with it. But if you don't experience the bad, how can you know what's good? He is not growing as a person if you ask me...

The thing is that he mastered himself in a game that is the creation of some people working in a games company. It's not like he mastered physics, biology, made something awesome that people can use. He mastered himself so he could kill 'Alliance bastards' and a few NPCs in Stromwind.
Dunno, maybe it's like mastering Basketball or Soccer, only I don't think WoW's Michal Jordan will find too many fans and much money Razz

Easy there financial whiz-kid! Don't go wasting your talents on us. They could use your kind of brain-power on wall-street at the moment. Razz

It's called multi-boxing and requires a lot of hardware and software (macros and such) skills to get it to work properly. Nevertheless it defeats the whole purpose of a multi-player game. Whatever makes people happy. Very Happy

well, life itself is kind of a game too. With rules made by society. Most people dont master much in their life and are drones to the rhythm of wage-slavery anyways. And those usually brand others as "losers" more willingly too.
Sure there are more real things one can enjoy and he wont earn much money with it (but he could get at least some of his investment back by selling characters or items). And since he has the money to spare, its not the most expensive hobby there is either. It most likely is one of the more time-consuming ones though.

Looking at the area of e-sports, i would say that there are already cyber michael jordans out there, earning good cash from playing games, so that argument is kinda moot.

The big question is how he will define his experience with WoW after he stops playing it. Will he look back at it and see it as a waste of time or will he still see it as a fun experience?
I know some WoW-players that stopped playing and most still see it as a great fun-time. Only one said, he kinda regrets the time he put into it.

He wouldn't be able to afford this stuff if he didn't have a well-paying job. What do you think? His mom bought him all this?

Something of that magnitude (includes much tempering with all the hardware and software stuff) requires a lot of time... Something like that is called logic, not psychoanalyse Rolling Eyes
EDIT: If his parents are well situated (aka rich-kid), and if they spoiled him, it isn't that hard to believe that his mom bought him all that (gave him the money)...

You'r smart, rest are obviously, well, not so smart not to have noticed this:D But nonetheless, I don't think he ever smelled pussy, maybe when the game was bugging and his WOW character got clipped in a female avatar, other than that Laughing

he plays them simultaniously, so he doesnt actually need much more time than others. If he is smart enough to have a good-earning job to finance the hard- and software, he also might be playing smart, giving him more experience per time interval of your choice. But that is just an educated guess...

well, considering the amount of time you have recently spent bickering here at the nforce about all the downfalls of the pursuit of pussy, i would have thought at least you would be able to see the benefits of a (thunder)cunt-free hobby Very Happy Razz Laughing
