Once Orca is installed go to the Temp folder and right click the file ‘hl2.msi’ and from near the top of the menu choose ‘Edit with Orca’. (You may have to edit the properties of this file to make it read only, but as it is copied to the harddrive it is probably already edited automatically)
When opened you will see 2 window panes, go to the ‘Tables’ one on the left and scroll down to ‘Media’
Click on ‘Media’ this will show you the entries in the Right pane. There will be 6 columns.
Change all the entries in the ‘VolumeLabel’ column to HL2_DVD
Then ‘Save’ it. (You can also use a program called ‘Masai Editor’ instead of ‘Orca’)
Now burn to a DVD using Nero using the Label HL2_DVD. |
Just a Minor FIX WITH THESE instructions... FROM CD2 the file to be copied is named HL22.cab

Anyone here tryed to playe the game in an different languge?
I got the vengeance version and added the german GCF file to
Steam\SteamApps (where all the other gcfs are). I changed also
the language from english to german in the registry. The menu in
HL2 is now German but it wont use the German sound...
Anyone has an idea to fix it?

Pls, I think I'm dumb, really... WHERE I have to unpack that VNG crack? Into the HL2 folder where the game is installed, or where? Because everytime I run hl2install.exe (I have tried the both methods - online/offline), it didn't do absolutely nothing.
But I'm installing it the different way... I have extracted all the hl2x.cab (from bin files) to one folder with setup.exe and it works. Btw, maybe that's the another way how to make a DVD from 5 CDs, or, on the other hand, that's the reason why it fails do crack the game.
Any ideas, plz? THX!

CS Source is online so you need STEAM to run it and since this HL2 doesnt run under STEAM it will not work.....but why bother when EMPORiO released it already??? |

You said you got the offline installer working but you were online to update steam - that doesn't make sense. According to the nfo the offline installer is (as the name says) for an offline installation without having to be online and update steam.
You could have also used the first hl2install.exe on CD5 if you were online and updated Steam.

Has anybody been able to mount these CDs in Daemon? All I get is an error saying: "Unable to mount image. Cue sheet: Unit is locked."
EDIT: Nevermind. A quick re-boot fixed it.

I completely agree with this! The ones who doesn't get this to work are simply foolish, ignorant and/or stupid. The NFO tells it correctly, if you are doing it different, it is depending on yourself!

nfo doesn't tell that after installation you have to let steam update itself through internet.

after installing the game last night i tested it and it worked
so i rebooted after that
now today i start the game
and during the loading screen after the pic from the dude with the thing on his eye
i get a windows popup saying runtime error
anybody got an idea what the heck this is

I have read all pages of this topic but still don't know WTF I'm doing wrong!!
I have internet connection active all the time
1. Extracted bins&cues
2. Mounted first image with Deamon
3. Started autorun.exe (manualy because I have autorun disabled)
4. Installed Steam
5. Installed HL2 from all 5 cds (with "create desktop shortcut" and counter Strike)
6. Steam wanted to access the internet (Norton Personal Firewall asked about that) so I granted it
7. Steam updated itself and asked if I want to login or register
8. Closed that window and launched hl2install.exe from cd5
9. B&W window showed with "Done.. press any key"
10. Double clicked on destop shortcut to HL2...
11. Steam ask if i want to login or register...
I also tried to install with "create destop shortcut" unchecked,- => after hl2install.exe there is no new shortcut on desktop.
Offline patch doesn't help either.
So, please... WTF I'm doing wrong???

You are not suppose to let the game install a desktop shortcut.

Because of that I don't know if the problem isn't in that way HOW I have installed this rls (as I mentioned above... I have extracted *.cab files from isos into one directory).
