Been exploring most of the world killing all sorts of things, found a remote island and a even more remote dungeon on it with a few odd tombstones in it.
(Granted most statues and tombstones contain weird inscriptions.)

Dungeon entrance.

Dungeon center.

(Level is due to the modifications done to the Balance.txt file, game is overall more difficult but you do gain a bit more XP and better rewards - still need to tweak it though as things are becoming extremely challenging due to how the scaling works, same with item prices.)

Is the game that easy without tweaking? I thought there are multiple difficulty levels that eventually make the game harder.

What did you tweak in balance.txt? TIA

No the game isn't particularly easy (Sure you respawn when killed normally but expect to die a lot in the beginning.) even if you don't modify the game but it depends on the level you play on (Silver versus Bronze for example and Hardcore further complicates things, depends on how you play your specific "class" or hero as they are good at different things plus the game scales within a max/min level for various regions depending on your own level.)

At first I merely altered it to see what would happen but now I've managed to do all sorts of smaller tweaks (Several interesting variables are hard-coded into the game engine via those S2 .dll files and can't be altered such as having a evil Seraphim or good inquisitor or access to all deities despite using Light/Dark campaign.)

By tweaking one thing I had to alter another in order to maintain a bit of balance, modifying drop rates and such meant I had to increase the difficulty of the monsters for example.

Most of it is easy to understand but I'm not that good with explanations, will try to give a good explanation of some values though.

Default "Balance.txt" file.

Does this value determine the level difference (scaling) of enemies compared to you for all the difficulty levels? if not, which one is it? TIA

AllEnemy_lvl = {1,5,10,20,200},

You can start on silver difficulty (default is bronze difficulty) and unlock harder difficulty levels by finishing the game I believe.

In addition, there is a hardcore mode, you die once and game is over, no loading.

AllEnemy_lvl = {1,5,10,20,200}, - Could be a variety of things as I haven't done much with it, at first glance I would say it's the minimum level for enemies based on difficulty but that doesn't hold up. (1 = Bronze, 5 = Silver, 10 = Gold, 20 = Platinum and then 200 when using Niobium?)

It could also be how far they can scale from the player such as 1 level above for Bronze and 5 levels above for Silver and then a full all-200-levels on Niobium.
(Assuming this is the correct name of the various difficulty levels, only Bronze and Silver are available initially after all with "Hardcore" further altering difficulty in a few ways alongside permanent death.)

EDIT: I still have quite a few values like the above where I haven't done much or don't really know what exactly it altered as it's much like a trial and error process where you alter a value and try to determine what changed and in which way.

What's this about level scaling? I haven't looked into the game yet so I've no idea how it works. Is it like in Oblivion *shudders* or like in Morrowind?

Theres a lot of people that are unaware of this but if you want a side by side comparison of an item equipped and an item in your inventory, hold down the "alt" key

There are a lot of little things such as this that no one knows. I had no idea if you hit Control + Left click on a party members portrait you teleport to them. Laughing

I've learned to read patch notes.

just found that on the official forums - how to change hair color:
Quote:

open console with ~ and type:
sys haircolor xxxxxx

xxxxxx is a hex colour, for example:
000000 - black
0000FF - blue
FF0000 - red
EE82EE - violet

more colours: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_colors

dunno if changing values via the console can mess the game up ,but that works.. :]
