New to forum but running out of ideas. Basically got a machine that is doing my t*ts in right now. It is a flashed Elite that was working fine. Got my hands on Fifa 09 then the first of many crashes started - basically involving the usual corrupt screen nonsense. It wasnt happening often to begin with so I didnt bother with it but Fallout 3 crashes about every 5-10 minutes (if Im lucky). Should note that it has even crashed when initially booting up the dashboard and even from the push of my HD DVD drives open button.
I have reformatted the HDD, deleted the cache tried without the HDD plugged in - pretty much most of what I could find on google that doesnt invole cracking open the unit.
On an off chance I thought that the perhaps the display settings could be an issue so changed from 1080p to 720p - the crash comes quicker but rather than a corrupt screen Im left with a pale blue screen of nothing with the machine humming away at the side quite merrily.
I dont play online so it hasnt been updated in months but I doubt that would be the cause. Im probably going to give Microsoft an earful - nothing to lose, but any help would be most appreciated.

Thought as much. Im going to try and make sure it isnt game specific (Fifa 09 and Fallout 3) as 99% of crashes have been when playing those titles - got a couple of retail games to try as well as a few more graphic intensive backups.
Not got much hope of sucess, besides, don't think I could handle listening to Liam Neeson AGAIN in Vault 101!!!

Machine is goosed! Not working with anything now for over 10 minutes. No RROD but will try a whinge at Microsoft anyway. If they get cheeky I'll just buy a new one - cant beat those pricedrops!

Just tell them it RROD's, and occosianally it will run but crash after a few minutes.
That will get you the free repair/replacement.

Cheers for advice. Getting those doughballs at Microsoft to send out a box for repairs.
Out of interest, what is the likelihood they'd spot it as being flashed? I reckon it'd be minimal but just curious.
I cant believe I formatted my harddrive losing all that data only for it to end up looking like a fecking GPU issue!!! Feel like a right t1t!!!

sending it back to MS won't perm fix it. Maybe for a year or so. Get the new X-camp and more or less perm fix it. In other words there will be another xbox before it dies ^^

Or... if you really want to have it fixed and live in the US. . . pay the guy off Ebay to reflow the chips with a rework station AND do the X clamp fix with stainless steel parts for $30.00
