Dunno If I should put the game on hold or complete it first and look at this as a fully fledged prequel ( questions might be answered from the game that might not hold relevence till completed )

This is the only new game that I still haven't DLed/played. Is it worth trying if Ive never even played Fable 1?

Actually you don't need to fix the image if you are using up-to-date firmware (1.4). No BAM, no nothing.
About Dead Space, looks like a Doom 3 clone to me. I guess there must be more to it because people seem to like it so much?

Just finished the game on Hard...All I have to say about the story is:
BEST ANTI-SCIENTOLOGY GAME EVERRRR....
Still to be honest I was a bit dissapointed ,even if overall it is a classical AAA title(perhaps even a GOTY contestant)...Mainly becouse of the fact that the title failed to scare me even once, not to mantion make me care or think over the characters and the plot as symbolical value or relation to deeper themes. As horror games happen to be my favorite gender Dead Space defenatly fails as one...To me it is exactly that detailed presentation of the characters, their problems ,dilemas and realistic behaviour that form the essence of a good horror title - for you to care and to actualy think "Oh my god , how is he/she able to go trough all of this. What is he/she thinking? Why does this happen to him/her" , and combined with the other aspects of the gameplay actualy feel afraid for what will happen to the character...
Perhaps this is becouse I already played too much survival horror titles and everthing seems clishey, but still Dead Space left me with the bad after taste of too many horror "influences" at once...It is as if they tried to combine all other existing horror titles(both western and japaneese) and blend them together...And even though it worked quite well( I actualy liked the story) for the plot it didn't do so for the atmosphere...Becouse of the borrowed story elements you can mainly foward guess what trick will the game try and pull in order to scare you, and in trying to mix those it fails in achieving consistency of the atmoshpere..Again one of the most important things in survival horror...The plot could basicly described as:(minor spoilers)
Spoiler: | Alien(monsters in spaceship vents) met Silent Hill 2(a letter from a dead wife) and Resident Evil 4( parasitic organisms used by a cult, which duble as tools used by mega corporations and the military, unleashed on the world by a scientific error) at the bar, and after one to many shots ,they decided to call The Thing(groutesqe monster desine of the "guess what I used to be type") and F.E.A.R(the "I see things that are not realy there, becouse my mind is influenced telepathicly" vibe and have a wild orgy...After nine months Resident Evil 4 gives birth to a child, and the fathers turn out to be both DooM 3 and Event Horizon, even though non of them was present that night...As the child grows RE 4 teaches it how bad sects are, espetualy Scientology(the whole thing was set by the "church of Unology") |
But enough with the critic ,after saying all that I have to state that to me Dead Space is perhaps the best 3rd person shooter with horror elements ever created..
The mechanics are simplistic yet offer variety and the player feels chalanged till the very end.The balance of enemy presence, munitions you have and damage you or your foes deal is perfect in order for the player to feel in a realistic situation. Yet you are never overwhelmed (even on Hard you still have enough ammo so even if you mess up and have to kill a necromorph by emptying a whole clip in its chest, you could still somehow manage till the next store) and can get satisfaction from the gunplay.
Even if enemies generaly stay the same from start to finish, after maxing out your armour and wepon of choise the game solves the problem of difficulty decrease by simply increasing the number of opponents you fight at the same time. This usualy leads to gasps of anger and frustration after realizing you have been shreded to pieces just as easly as you were in the begining of the game...
The level design , even if it does involve some back tracking is simply amazing, espetualy the sence of realistic scale that it creates in some cases when you are simply overpowered by the massive machinery surrounging you from all sides and making you think "yeah...you can defenatly crack a planet with those" and the constant movement and activity noticable in every system of the ship be it a pierced air pipe that hisses periodicly, the vacume tunneles leading to burning smelters for raw ore, or the rythm of a mallfunctioning door oppening and closing rapidly...
The several "puzzles" you have to solve only stranghten that sensation of the ship beeing an actualy functioning piece of machinery, that you are in constant interaction with.I never liked that "the enviroment is an enemy by itself" line they use in reviews, but if there is one title where this is so in the truest sence of the word, this would be Dead Space..There were some moments where I liturely HATED the damn ship...
As for the artwork itself "dark brooding sci-fi" in its finest form, with nice touches of realism, based around the concept that human techology didn't actualy change from its ways of exploiting natural resourses- it only grew in scale...A perfect example of that would be how realisticly "rude" and practicle the RiG used by the main character looks, even after its upgrades- no B-movie lights and plastic, or heavy armour plates - just a jumpsuite with heavy work boots, protection mask and bits of steel here and there for protection - but not too much so that you can remain mobile...Same goes for all technology shown- no unrealisticly clean lines or "crisp" looks - just pure pragmathical solutions of the "whatever it needs to work" type...Only exeption would be the bridge of the Ishimura, that looked as if it was taken out of Star Wars..but it simply looks too good to bashed about...looking too good...
The sound I don't want to discuss simply becouse it was just what was needed, when it was needed, both as music and sound effects...With other words- just as a quality audio should be done- it is soo good you take it as something natural....
Over all if you look at it as a horror title it would be no more then a 6/10...If however you happen to be scared of gore or see the game as a TPS with strong horror elements and good engaging setting it automathicly jumps to 9/10
PS: The 9 only becouse of the fact that I met a bug at the very end that made me replay a 10 minutes long fight with low health and ammo 3 times in a role...
