My first opinion of it was it was very meh..... It seemed like the first one except with a lot more customizable stuff.
Well, it is like the first one with a lot of customizable stuff but it been built on from there. Its a decent game and the online co-op is excellent as you can co-op proper missions and the like, basically play the whole single player game in co-op.
Would highly recommend this. Its fun, fun, fun

anyone had alot of lockups with this?
only played 30 mins and had one lockup, i don't with any other games just wondering if its a common thing with this game

I had more with the retail release than with the Review copy 
Suffered one while in ultor final mission as well :/

Seems like its really random... I only had it once tho, completed it in 15h 30min..

I have two retail copies, two consoles (one refurbished, one new) and getting random lockups. The game is pretty damn buggy, but playable.

Can someone compare this to GTA4 - i've only gotten about 25% of the way through GTA4 - it's a good game but also quite difficult and slightly repetitive... is this more of the same? or is there another reason I should get this?

IMO this is better than GTA4 for one reason. It's fun, even after you've beaten it. It also has proper co-op, that works great.

Not sure about that but the music definitely sounded better on the retail. Also the controller vibrations were more "punchy".
