Fantastic game, great graphics and it runs fantastic, for the firs time we have a game that uses my 4 cores of my quad processor.
Gameplay is fantastic, the heal system is amazing...
For now is 9/10 , didnt test the mp mode yet. |
Let me guess, you're either a bought gaming journalist or you work for Ubisoft, amirite? Or maybe you're just 'fan-tastic'?

imo missions are there for those who enjoy doing them. if you think they are repetitive (i'm not saying they arent, i'm saying i'm too immersed and involved in the action for them to feel repetitive) just stick with the main plot. i for one love the game -> my major "complain" being the african setting. replace that with a post apocalyptic mad max one and it turns from great to AWSOME. so yeah.. 9/10 for me too-.-

8.5/10 in my book...
the only major let down is the game absolutely doesn't have any stealth at ALL!
and i mean AT ALL!

I'd actually rate it below Boiling Point, Mercs2, Crysis, etc.( and miles below games like Stalker ), which gave me far more fun than this thing has any chance of doing. There's just nothing *good* about the game. The setting, and thus the graphics, are boring, the actual shooting-gameplay is completely non-revolutionary, going looking for diamond briefcases is ridiculous, actually getting anywhere takes forever with enemies jumping you every corner, etc., etc. There's just no fun here.
It ends up being 'just another fps game', totally generic and forgettable.

Sneaking is pretty easy (Getting up behind someone or going past a outpost.) but once you start your attack everyone is notified (Even if you use a silenced weapon or the machete.) so I kinda agree with you.

I was actually more referring to the way he wrote his post. Fantastic, great, fantastic, for the first time, fantastic, amazing, 9/10. It's like taken right out of a modern-day PC game review.

Stealth works a lot better at night and if you distract enemies first. If they're running away from fire they seem to not care so much that you just shot their friend dead. Maybe that's not exactly stealth, but I manage to kill people with the dart rifle like this without them ever returning fire.
Cars will still hunt you down though. I had one race through fire to get to me before, he crashed into a tree and fried himself in the inferno.

Ironically enough, most game sites gave Far Cry 2 a rather lukewarm review, complaining about shallow gameplay, tedious traveling etc.

If you just sat down and did a few side missions and ran around shooting and driving and setting shit on fire.. you'd think this game was 100% win. It's once you do that same thing in the same way for the 50th time that you realize it's shallow and shit.

Jeez the AI really is stupid.
First of all, it's pretty common to see enemies run by me in a firefight, broad daylight, while I shoot the crap out of their comrades. There is no reason for them to ignore me, but they often do this while trying to "find me". Not to mention that they almost never look for cover. They just kneel in the middle of the road, point their gun at me and wait to be shot down.
Then I was sent to the airport to kill a drug dealer guy. Decided to go at night. Of course, the airport is pretty deserted so I decided to blow some of the barrels up while searching for the guy, as I didn't find him at the marker. I thrown all my granades, burned the grass all around the place...and in the middle of all this amazing mayhem, I see that the reason I didn't find the guy was because he was fast asleep in the hangar. None of the explosion or the spreading fire woke him up (and it was all like 10 feet away from him). I walked up to him. He finally decided to get up from the floor. He looked at me and walked away. Not even a hint of will to defend himself. Cut him up with my bayonett.

Well I like this game, was just doing a mission in the scrap yard, hunkered down in a wrecked bus, while gunfire came in through all the windows, all shattering around me with me trying to peek out to get a bead on an enemy.
Was like playing a movie and it wasn't even a fucking set piece. Not played many other games that can pull this off.
Brilliant game.

I'm actually enjoying this game even with it's flaws, so far it's pretty fun and I've played for like 3 or 4 hours. I'm still on act 1 tho but that's probably becuase I take all side missions and such.
I'd give this game 7 of 10 because of the major flaws in the game. ^_^

One thing that is really annoying is the choice to call the game "Far Cry 2"!!! It´s got nothing to do with Far Cry in any way except it's the same publisher (who owned the name and nothing else) trying to cash in on the originals success.

And code from the original Far Cry Cryengine that exists in the dunia engine.

It must be the biggest disappointment for me ever. Been waiting for this game for a long time, played it for roughly 3 hours, I tried to enjoy it, really. End up uninstalling it.
pros:
- nice landscape
cons:
- you feel like it was multiplayer and you're the only one around, even environment seems to be dead (where are african animals?)
- everything possbile attacks you for no bloody reason?
- you can't sneak around, kill someone and escape unnoticed, they will know where you are, no matter what
I could probably name even more cons whereas it's really tough to find pros. ;/
After Far Cry 1, Crysis it's huge let down.

Stealth isn't a piece of cake, but it can be done. Even at night, in camouflage and in the bushes, the enemies will spot you if you open fire due to your muzzle flash. If they weren't looking your way when you took your shot, some will eventually come to the source of the noise.
The Dart Rifle gets the guys running around after you start firing, but they won't be able to spot you due to flash or noise. Night helps, and so does the camo suit. I'm afraid to say a silenced headshot is more effective than a machete strike (though less cooler). They tend to scream as you hack 'em down, before the crotch coup de grace, so their buddies will obviously be alarmed.
The only complaint I have about the stealth system is that sometimes snipers and rocket dudes can spot you in ideal stealth conditions before you even fire a shot. It's logical that sharpshooters get an extended field of vision, so technically they would be able to spot you as you get closer with your vehicle. However, I still think there are some unexplainable spottings.
I can only guess most of the people complaining about the perceived lack of stealth are simply doing it wrong. Even in the night, camo and bushes, no sniper with a loud, flashy rifle can plausibly take out an entire enemy camp without being spotted. He'd need to be at least a kilometre away for that to have some chance to work.

It's very possible, given the right conditions (night, crouching, camo, silenced weapon). I just completed an assassination mission in that place around the police chief's office, killing only my target and some guy that was in the way. Sneaked around the perimeter in the vegetation, two headshots with my silenced Makarov and then retreated to the jungle without being spotted.
