If you search around the web you'll find DVD 9 version of the game. Any ideas?
Tips: try with web site, starting with something, that means "very small"!

Any mods yet, like 'stop respawning at checkpoints ya turds'? Can't say that ubisoft games are generally modable apart from the silent hunter series, a ton of mods for silent hunter 3.
I'm thinking of skipping on this game until some mods arrive, I jut finished the Witcher and I'm like 12 games behind stuff that's out there right now should keep me occupied for at least a year.

Can someone share some MP impressions ? But not from Hamachi & Co.
Someone who bought the game.
PS. Most important things: are there enough servers/players ?

Bought all the weapons from the dealers.
The last weapon is teh grenade launcher. Which is pretty sweeeeet.
And to think it was one of the first weapons that I picked up, unfortunately it blew up in my hand a little while later.

the servers browser
they tried a stylish one which is not like usual ones, with way less options . no sorting, etc . there are ranked and player servers. you can have your level, unlocks etc persisted only on ranked servers.
problem: you can't join a ranked server when a match is going on. you gotta wait till theres few ppl waiting to play to join them.
theres deathmatch, team deathmatch, capture the flag (diamonds case), and uprising (capture areas of map then kill enemy captain). not many servers apart TDM and uprising type of servers.
gameplay
-maps are ok, some big , some too small. excellent gfx and frame per seconds.
- you can heal yourself, provided you didnt take a critical hit. it require 3 seconds to heal fully.
- you can revive teammates, provided they didnt take a critical hit.
- there's ammo boxes you can resupply from, but if an enemy shoots it it explodes and can kill those around it.
- sniper rifles pwn everything. if you manage to get the dragunov and later the as50 its game over. they are useless in very small maps with no elevation, but theres like 1 or 2 map of that type. sniper rifle got no sway, no breathing effect, no wind effect. you stand still you shoot across map, you win.
-some weapons are fun like flamethrower, but cutting heads of snipers noobs from behind with machete is the most satisfying.
-few vehicles only: jeep, buggy, boats, a deltaplane (aka im-here-shoot-me!)
- no lean , no strafe running, no prone. BAD
conclusion:
misses a lots of stuff. from servers browser to some consolish gameplay.
BUT
if you dismiss that, use the map vegetation and cover available, its a fun game.
(better than crysis mp shit)
too bad with little more pc fps standardization it could have been a goty.

i was really put off by the game after only playing an hour or two. But i gave it another chance and it grew on me. Not a great game, but also not really a bad game either...

It's certainly not shit, while I agree that it's not GOTY, it's not that bad either.
The fact that it's so damn well made in terms of optimization should be enough to consider it a okey game at the very least. The gameplay may be quite shallow, but it's not shit. |
Yeah and it's very polished, which isn't the case with most of the similar games. Both STALKER games were quite ambitious projects and sounded awesome but in the end both ended buggy and unoptimized. At least Far Cry 2 delivers on what it promised.
In conclusion: a STALKER game with the Dunia engine would be awesome.

Engine optimization doesn't have anything to do with gameplay. If you have a Crysis engine that can run with Ultra High settings on a single core PC with a Geforce 6600 @ 60+ FPS but the game itself is shallow, repetitive, annoying and lacks fun, no amount of eye candy can turn a poor game into a good game. I'm speaking generally here, not specifically about Far Cry 2 (even though it failed completely in my book).

Man these Africans are like superman or something.
Several bullets to their naked torso does little.
One headshot is enough if you sneak up on the guy, several if the guy is alert.

Well, at least in the hardcore difficulty; enemies will go down with a single headshot even if your not sneaking around.

I haven't touched the game for days. It really just lacks a lot of things.

I play time to time the multiplayer despite the host disconnections and the shaky login server.
unlocking weapons is incentive enough to me. with burning noob snipers.

I think you could just raise the ground level, then create a canal of varying depth to indicate going deeper down or up and then cover the top with a rock, and there you go, a 'cave tunnel'.
You'll need to put a lot of effort to do that though.

I think you nailed it with that comment. I'm a pure single player gamer. I like playing games for the story, atmosphere, setting and content. I want to get immersed and "lose" myself in the game, almost like if I were playing an RPG. Far Cry 2 just didn't get me involved not matter how good the engine is. It felt somewhat barren and empty, I can't put my finger on exactly what's wrong, but the immersion factor is constantly broken by the issues I have problems with, thus the game to me is tedious, shallow and empty. It's a personal opinion and not mean to berate the game, just an explanation why it fails for me.
And yes, a highly optimized and beautiful game engine adds to the experience, pulls you in and makes the immersion factor huge. A badly optimized game engine (Crysis anyone?) ruins the experience. I was mainly talking about the fact that game play for me is the most important factor with the game engine coming second. The best games have both of those sorted and up to notch and thus gives me the best experience. Far Cry 2 is not one of these games.
Fallout 3 on the other hand has already drawn me into the world of 2277, a post apocalyptic world with a very special atmosphere.
I have 3 candidates for GOTY so far: Fallout 3, Stalker: Clear Sky and Mass Effect. Perhaps that helps show my preferences.
