Just played a bit more, like 3 hr more.
Im loving this game, didnt play the previous fallout games.
The exploration is great, interesting npc´s to talk to\do missions, the vats system is very fun !
The performance on outside is not so good as inside buildings or cities (like megaton).
Great graphics, sound.... and im loving the story.

Anyone have probs with subtitles. When I start to talk to someone, the text appears and quickly skips through all the stuff with no chance to read it. It was fine at start of game.

Gets better as you play, the console 'inventory' is still killing me but mods will fix it one day, Megaton looks better at night to me. Game is definitely more balanced than Oblivion everything seems to work well and every stat matters, still the environment sucks it's kind of dull, 'big boom' is just an excuse by bethseda here.

Is anyone playing this like an FPS and not using VATS? Is it doable? Would save you lots of points in weapons (small guns, etc).

Hey how often do you get perks? I know you get one at level 2 but what about afterwards?Every three levels like in Fallout1/2 or ?

Every level, don't worry, a rewritten leveling system will be created by the modding community. |

Playing on Normal difficulty, character at level 3. With repaired combat shotgun(46% CND) they go down in 3 or 4 shots to the chest in real time mode and 1 or 2 shots via VATS  Got combat shotgun by chance, one of raiders "gave" it to me 
EDIT: small guns skill = 30  stats system is a total mess IMHO. |

fucking best game in the recent weeks of releases, jsut awesome. I actually liked oblivion, hell i'll take ablivion's 4 voice actors over Far Cry 2s monotonus empty landscape any day. and FO3 is nothing short of stunning, i actually feel for these characters a feeling i havent expeirenced since Oblivion.
im halfway thorugh FC2 and im bored, im halfway through Deadspace im bored, but this is like a good book, you just cant put it down.

item condition and repair are horrible. Losing 10-20% per medium sized battle is horrible. Mods save me!

Mini-review
It's Oblivion with guns. Actually it's a little better because now there is xp, so you have motivation to do side quests, kill monsters, etc. Like Oblivion, it's a simple console game, much less complex than your average pc rpg.
Performance is excellent. No crashes. Extremely fast saving and loading. I have an old P4@3.2 with a 6600GT. It is below minimum but runs fine.
I'm playing at "very hard". After I left the vault, I couldn't kill anything. But now I have chinese assault rifle / sniper rifle / combat shotgun. With those, even super mutants are not that hard. I'm level 5.
Some hints:

Put lots of points in agility and sneak. Pickpoket will get you tons of ammo and money. Also, shooting while sneaking crits. One crit headshot kill most enemies.
Sheriff Chuck Norris at Megaton has a chinese assault rifle. You can steal it from him.
Minetown (is this the name?) has lot's of free beds.

4 crashes now.. I updated my device drivers (geforce 7900 GTX Go)
and still crashed.
