as i said before, blocking the exe is unnecessary. It has nothing to do with the games protection or anything.

Thank god for people who can read ...

What's the IP that RA3 is trying to access? Could just add that to hosts file and be done with it.

Using a packet-tracer will help you.

Adding this line to your hosts file does the trick:

127.0.0.1 servserv.generals.ea.com

Oh and i hate that fat line around selected units ....

Yeah, same with USA #3, looks like RLD overlooked some custom triggers. Waiting for proper crack.

Ahwell, back to Fallout 3 for a while then =)

Edit: and to be more on topic, personally i think it's an OK game but it's nowhere near the quality of the first C&C and RA game.
I'll probably finish it off but it's not really something i'll play again when im done (unlike the first games which i played trough many times)

Seems like those threads are mostly about tech questions nowadays, not much about the actual game play Surprised

Well the game play then...

For me it was... awful.

Im a big fan of RA1, RA2 was OK, but to much sci-fi for me, now they have taken it beyond sci-fi and made an extreme sci-fi Toys "R" Us version of Red Alert.

I couldn’t stand the look and feel of it. It took me about ten seconds to realize this Smile Try the first "tutorial", talking tanks is telling you what to do, kind of says it all doesn’t it? Then that the units look like some colorful toys instead of war machines doesn’t really help...

The only thing that was good was the in-game movies. It seems they have spent ten times more energy and money on the movies compared to the actual game play, sad.

I would give this piece of shit 1,5/10

0,5 for the movies, but if i want to see a movie, i dl a fucking movie, not a game.

Ah, damn. So perhaps the SKIDROW crack is different? The ViTALiTY proper appears to be a fake.

And KeyserSoeze, what do you mean with "talking tanks", exactly? Tank units always have a voice, like every other unit in the game.

PS: I haven't experienced the crashes myself yet. Still downloading.

He reffers to the tutorial (in the part with talking tanks).
But how do you know about crashes if you're still downloading ?

Anyway, a crackfix to be expected.

I found talking tanks in tutorial funny and a nice change of pace from the traditional boring voice from nowhere tutorials.

Just got the CTD after the fifth russian mission. I almost cried... i took the mission three times in order not to be crushed by the constant attacks from every directions.. Just because the first two i forgot to build extra cranes to helm me with faster defence built..

Anyway- the review so far.. based on the soviets only

graphics... colorful.. bright...vibrant.. after 30-40 minutes my eyes got used to this..
the water is pretty nice...

the artistic value and unit design of some of the units are terrible, i got the feeling that i play tiberum wars all over again..

Especially the V4 rocket.. is the same as the nod's one..
The buildings are generic as always..
EA pulled their favoirte two hangars put together for the soviet barracks.. what was wrong with the statue building in RA 2? Sad

every time i mention how i hate the shitty sage engine... the infantrys are like tetris figures again- at least this time they are bigger than ants..

the gameplay is the standart for the C&C, tho is faster that RA2, much closer to C&C3..

The only 100% great thing about this game is the music.. its awesome..

so far mixed reactions.. is better than C&C3, but not as good as RA2 so far..

All of 3D C&C games (and LOTR) ever since Generals are locked at 30 fps, because all of them are using same but ofcourse upgraded for each game engine. There is a hack to unlock fps, but it's useless as all the gameplay is also locked at 30fps, so running it at 60 will make it twice as fast and so on.

Yes I have same thing here, probably a bad crack. Good thing the game saves just as you complete the mission.

confirmed, game crashes after iceland mission (and of course i saved 30 seconds before finishing the allies off ).

Well , some time for a mini review i guess :

Gameplay
: It plays like a mix of RA2 and CNC3. Obviously it has a lot of similarities
to CNC3 (seeing as it is the same engine) but somehow better. You have
even have the choice to change to "original" CnC mouse settings.
As most CNC Games, it is easy as fuck (at least for me, a Dune 2 original
...) and it is mostly about outbuilding your opponent, and mass marching
into his base and kick the living shit out of him.
And also since Dust 2 it still goes the same way of "defend first, kick
ass later". Lots of "new" Units (mixed with new ones, revamped ones)
and most with special abilities (as seen in CnC3).
Lots of Water and Water emphasized warfare going on. Guess
they listened to the RA2 fans The resource system has been
changed, and for the better i think. Seems a lot more balanced as it is
now (1 ore miner per mine) which eliminates the whole "do i build 3 miner
or 4 and do i buy and resell my refinery ..." That was just stupid in CNC3.
But all in all, gameplay is pretty solid, no big surprises, but it is clearly a
Bred and butter CnC game worthy of the name.

Graphics:Well, first off, it isn't "bad", not as bas as some might want you
to believe it is. It is very colorful tho. But then again, RA2 was
pretty much the same, just with lower poly count and less pixel
(resolution) so i wouldn't call it too bad. What did however irritate me,
is the glowing, out of context and color surrounding of units once
selected. It makes them ugly, simply ugly. Maybe there is an option
somewhere, have to check i guess. Otherwise nothing to say i guess.
Lots of options to finetune quality/performance in options.
Oh and the water (and the ocean surface) are just gorgeous, ALLTHO
a bit dead (no animals, plants or anything.)

Sound : Probably the best thing about the game. Usually this would mean, its
a bad game, but not here. The music is just THAT FREAKING
AWESOME, that anyone would have a hard time topping it with
graphics or gameplay (seriously).

my score : Gameplay 8.5/10 (rich campaign, funny story, good ol' Red alert-like)

Graphics 7.5/10 (all in all satisfying, but maybe a tad too colorful and
aggressive)

Sound 9.9/10 (because i don't like to give 10's)

Videos 9.0/10 (captured the spirit of RA for me, unlike CNC3 vids)

Overall : 8.5/10 Could have been better, but still a pretty good game in my book.

and now lets wait for a crack fix

Ra2 was semi-destroyed (published) by EA, the only good Red Alert was the first one so that's not a good comparison, RA3 got the worst grade out of all three, naturally since it's 99% Ea.

Well, you're going a bit overboard there. If you want to pick flaws, RA1 was nearly a clone of the original C&C. There's little graphical difference between them (some units differ only in name) besides the menus (barely) and the movies. In my opinion, RA2 was much better than the first.
