Like to add that the best sound system for games and movies is different to music...

Great bang for your buck system. I gave mine to my step son and he loves it.
I have an Onkyo 606, with Angstrom Modular 2 fronts and center. With Angstrom Suono 300S surrounds. And a Pro Linear Cube Sub. They sound amazing in my HT room, and are fairly cheap.
if you can spend a little more, get a decent amp and speakers vs an all in one kit.

Funny to think how obsessive/retarded hifi can get...
Dudes on the Naim forum rewire their houses so that their stereo is on it's own electricity signal path and the current is fucking clean....
Terminology isn't close to being right, and it's a while since I've been into hifi, but these motherfuckers pay hundreds of thousands of pounds for a fucking stereo...
Emperors new clothes point blank tbh....

One word of warning for UK members, been looking at Energy efficiency in relation to cost of running, and I think the z-5500 could probably end up costing a fortune?
I've ordered one of those energy monitors from Amazon because we have kind of a monopoly in the UK at the moment...

As some have said already, if you want to start building a homecinema system you could get a nice start here.I mean for the cash you spend on that Logitech-setup you can get a nice reciever and that's a good start.
But sure, the Logitech-system is a quick fix, probably decent sound and it doesn't cost that much.
Personally I have a Yamaha RX-V649 and the big Infinity Beta speaker-setup (C360, 2x 50, 2x 20) and I'm loving the shit out of it. The one thing that a lot of people look past is that even though it might be pricey it's not like buying a computer for example. HIFI-setups, unless you crave upgrades, last for 10 years+ without too much trouble.

THX certified, which I think doesn't rationalise performance against cost; just quality of experience... It goes fucking loud..

10 yrs ago i used to have an AV import business and i took the best available at the time which was a Yamaha DSP A1 Gold Amp a REL Strata 2 Sub and about £1000 worth of Mission speakers Left, Right, centre and rears. At the time it was just for 5.1 DVD films but 3 yrs ago i got the 360 and hooked up the digital sound and wow it was awesome. This sound rocks your bones if at around a quater volume in both film and game. I reckon u could now get this setup for around £500 off ebay and it would be really worth it. there are no shortcuts in AV get the best even if its old its still damn good. i reckon the A1 is still one of the best u can get and its now cheap off ebay although it weighs like 55 lbs so delivery will be about £50.
As for framerate, the 360 version runs smooth, while the PS3 is a jaggy mess that chugs along in slow motion.

Go for the home cinema cable yeah. Thing is that you probably won't notice a difference cable-wise on such a, forgive me for saying it, low quality audio setup as the Z5500, but it's still better to get something that's too good for your system than not good enough.

I just have a JVC 7.1 receiver (only using 5.1, and it doesn't have HDMI which is OK since I run optical from my HTPC) and a cheapo set of 5.1 speakers. Got the receiver for free and the speaker set was reduced from $300 to $100, so not a big investment in the slightest.
But I'm actually just running HDMI to my LCD TV and then stereo to my receiver so all surround is just simulated. Still sounds amazing though, big upgrade over what I used to be using. |
get to work you poor bastard
