NFS is not and has never been a car simulator. Its an arcade game and is fun.
If they want to add realism at the expense of fun, then they lose the purpose of gaming which is to have fun.

The thing that worked was the addition of Police to erect the penises of the youth who play the game. |
i for one hated it for the car physics, the presentation, the gamestyles and the car-physics that all amounted to me not having fun with it. And did i mention the shitty car-physics? All the previous nfs made me have fun.
Visually this actually looked pretty good, but just didnt deliver the joy the others did, so at least in my case it has nothing to do with my penis not being erected enough by not having police in it. I could care less. The racing-fun just wasnt there... |
Why? Because they forced players to actually have to slow down to corner? All they changed was the grip which made the cars seem as though they had weight and it fooled a lot of people. Zomg I'm playing a arcade racer that requires me to brake before a turn!!! Weren't the race types all carry overs from the previous titles minus 1? But I can agree that the "feel" of the cars in the last 4 games has not satisfied.
I think the physics were fine for the average player and most of the complaints come from the drastic change in theme. If the game setting was a city with free roam people would say otherwise. Also I don't find the changes they made as significant as others, the cars still drove like sloppy, slippery, bathtubs as you can demonstrate by quick changes in direction. Arcade racers don't have to be ridiculously forgiving as GRID has shown us, and no GRID is not a hybrid.
I'm all for fun arcade racers (The latest Outrun) but hating on a NFS game because of it's physics (Or lack of) is like hating your wife for not having a penis.
Our definition of fun in a racing game may differ. For me it's running a perfect lap as fast as possible with the best line. Not morphing my cars aero parts, adding synthetic upgrades, roaming a empty city when I can click RACE through the menu, or being chased by police which runs out of breath after the 3rd time. But that appeals to others so oh well. |
Apparently you like stupid minigames like "warming up the tires" through a gimmicky and totally pointless scene. Or the "MTV Paradise" style of presentation of the whole game, or the fact that the cars controlled like if you had a whale on the roof (PC version). It just failed, completely. If you enjoyed it: good for you, but it seems the rest of us didn't and we're hoping for something that isn't reminiscent of NFS:PoS

i d have to agree with Scyphe there (the nfs:pos remark is pure pwnage too ). If you liked it, good for you. I didnt. I m also not the biggest fan of how the cars in the latest nfs games handled, but pro street didnt handle right AND wasnt fun. And i do like to break...
i still havent tried GRID though, so i might give that a try if the new NFS sucks also =) Which i hope it doesnt

The games have gradually gotten worse and worse. Not because of the decisions the dev's have made in each release but rather what they haven't done. It's the same game with a new paint job over and over. I am 100% the same applies to Undercover.
EDIT: And no I haven't enjoyed a NFS game since Hot Pursuit. And it seems like you didn't read my post at all as my dislike for the series is pretty obvious.

so, then why are you even posting in here, when you re only bringing contempt for the series to the thread? It s a serious question (no troll- or flame-bait intended). Because i wouldnt go over to a forum about barbies either just to complain because i never liked em.
there are alot of things that arent really right about NFS games like the rubber-band AI and the arcadishness of the cars. But there was always something unique in every game and all amounted to fun games for me no matter the nitpicking.
I also liked nearly all colin mcrae games and one or two formula one simulations and a few other racing games for what they delivered, so i know what i like and dont like. And pro street just didnt deliver. So, if they go back to the formula they used before, i m almost certain i ll be a happy camper, even if it might not be the game to end all games.

the only thing that allways made me piss angry is the "catch up" system ... like i drive with my Porsche in the speed of light and suddenly from a total stop this magic cop car can catch me...oh wait now there are 6 cop cars that can magical boost their speed ... (example http://www.gametrailers.com/player/42738.html )
o and one more thing is this game time frozen like all the others ? you know drive all time in post-apocalyptic bloom orgy or all time in total darkness with no weather change

Yeah man the first was nuts at the time. All those live action videos of the cars and the point to point tracks with awesome scenery. I personally disliked the 2nd but loved 1,3,4. Interior view FTW.

Weren't those releases clones? wouldn't work with only a clone as EA is using that online activation protection (SecuROM) on all their titles now.

i have to agree with krazy about "every new nfs getting worse"
what was the conspectus back to 1994 with nfs1 (3do): an arcade racing game with exotic cars
it worked well until NFS4, after that they pumped our Porsche Unleashed. sure, it may've been a good game, but NFS never was about simulators. i personally didnt like Porsche. Motor City was a fail also.
now, after that EA wanted to resurrect NFS3/4 era with HP2, but failed thanks to so little they put into the game. there was much less features compared to older NFSses.
and then it was the time when EA got new leading people. well, basically their direction was to make NFS game based on popular movies. and well, yeah, NFS idea was completely scrapped.
guys, free roaming shouldn't be part of NFS, tuning shouldn't be. this isn't what NFS is supposed to be. but Fast n Furious and Transporter (Undercover is based on that) and all these kewl movies are what makes young boys buy the games even more.
EA nowadays puts way less devotion. you can't even change time cycles or different weather conditions.
EA could release every 2 year or so a game = more complete game
yes

sure it was just a stupid remark. oh well, too bad gaming industry has become a multi billion industry.
though there are non-cash hardcore gamer companies out there: 3d realms, human head, id software (though not sure about them anymore).

i dont understand why ea is fucking using the new securom. they are so stupid. activision is using standart securom 7 for call of duty, and the game sells like hell, even by downloading ... would ea just use securom 7, their games would sell much better, but if their games with the new securom arent selling good, its the fileshares fault. i hate fuckin stupid ea!

EA games always have and always do sell like crazy, even if it's turd wrapped in a EA package. People buying their games are usually mainstream gamers and that group doesn't really need harsh DRM. So yeah, it's strange they went for online activation.

well since carbon their selling copys have been going back like hell.
most wanted 10mio+
carbon 5mio+
pro street not even 1mio
do you think they selling their games like hell? well all their reteil sellings going back or why do you think they use the new securom? they wanna win the money from the filesharer to hope that they sell again like hell.
