So which version is the best? MVS is the scene one, but I read some P2P releases are better. The MVS sound is awful.

Yeah, MPEG2 at 3,6 mbit/sec for an action movie. Now we need someone to release a watchable version.

Are these releases basically the same as the theatrical release ? remember hearing how the dvd release would contain a few more scenes that where cut from theaters to cut the time down

Well there aint no "directors cut" in the title/release name so i guess it's the same as the cinema release.

Obviously you first take everyone's money with the normal release, and only then you release the Director's Cut with the NEVER SEEN BEFORE FOOTAGE, MUST HAVE!

Are the IMAX shots included on the Blu-Ray? I'd love to compare IMAX to film at 1080p.

Parts of the movie were shot with IMAX cameras, and of course will make their way to bluray, but you will probably not see a difference. Film can usually produce higher resolutions that 1080p, so both sources would have been resized to 1080p.

Don't you think that the IMAX shots would look less grainy than film?

I think these days grain is more of an artistic tool, not a technical difficulty. But we'll have to see. Don't remember much grain in TDK.

Nolan doesn't really do directors cuts though , he says his theatrical release is his finished vision ( which was reiterated with Batman begins )

But I'm pretty sure he said that he had to cut some scenes due to time constraints ( was on the subject of ledger so probably a few joker scenes ). was thinking he might sneaked em into the dvd . Guessed he wouldn't but you never know . just wondering if anyone noticed any differences ?

Woah, can't believe it, the bluray has all the IMAX scenes in full 16:9 frame, while regular film parts are 2.35:1... So, for purists, these two scene releases are nuked, as they both crop the IMAX scenes.

This means that in the retail version some scenes have smaller black borders than others?

That means some have black borders while others don't have any (on a 16:9 monitor), yes. It's an interesting design choice by the director, but this is what he chose, so this is the proper way to watch it.

uh.. that's a shit to encode
sharp edges by moving video tend to get blurry and gather artefacts
i'd be interested to learn how much the bitrate will suffer from the additional black borders
