well, it runs on the source engine, and hl2 was the first source engine game. The movement, textures, models, etc, are all different, tho.
game is average? I said that after playing the demo once or twice. However, with a co-ordinated group, the game is f'ing awesome! Best co-op game ever. LAN should be a blast.

Actualy that's what makes mod a mod.
You can call all games running on same engine mods, so this discussion would be completely pointless.

Is that really so bad? I know steam used to suck big time with all kinds of weird problems, but it's pretty good nowadays.
Plus, whatever fears you might have with steam, it's worth confronting them for this game.
Most fun I've had in a shooter in years.
nice one, glottis. what the hell happened there? lol
looks pretty disgusting :P

what's wrong with steam? It hasn't sucked since it's first release back in the CS 1.6 days.

Just shame they don't put lower prices on Steam than stores... After all, you get no printed (i.e. cost to produce) material after all. But other than that, completely true.

sometimes they do:
-pre-orders have 10% discounts
-original Half-Life is only $.98
-valve complete pack $100

WHAT??!!
Geez. i honestly don't know what some people look for in a game. This has got to be one of the best, if not THE best, multiplayer coop games EVER. Sure it needs some more content, but that will come. What is there is FAR above average. Maybe you need to get on meds or something. . . or come off them. Which ever helps.

I know about that, I'm talking about newly released games, and games not just by Vavle.

|
 |
I read the last 10 page or so, couldn't find my answer ...
So, is it possible to play LAN ?
Actually, I'd like to give the game a go with 2 buddies tomorow. I don't feel like paying for it because ... let's be honest, we'll play it 2/3 hours at best. And never again after that. If there where a demo we would do with that, but there isn't anymore.
I got the steam version, wich worked online for some time it seems (until yesterday update). Is it still possible to play on LAN with this version ? How ? Does any other version allow you to do it ?

man, it sucks when you get nailed by a smoker and a hunter jumps on you.
We were just at the airport (awesome plane crash) and the last tank hits us, 2 guys down, im near death but still shooting off the pistols blacking out, still firing off. Man...what a rush. I just die, they had just enough time to jump on the plane. Left me 4 dead

No, without an internet connection it wont work for the most part. You can launch a dedicated server but you cant join it unless your on steam. You might be able to get "offline" steam to work, it will let you join that way, but you all have to have separate accounts and it has to be setup online first, then go offline. It's a real pain to try and get it to work offline. Basically there is no proper LAN release right now.

Left.4.Dead-SKIDROW
Code: | Eboy
S K i D R O W
-> T H E L E A D i N G F O R C E <-
proudly presents
Left 4 Dead / Valve
RELEASE DATE : 22-11-2008 PROTECTION : Steam
GAME TYPE : Shooter DISKS : 1 DVD
Release Notes:
From Valve (the creators of Counter-Strike, Half-Life and
more) comes Left 4 Dead, a co-op action horror game for the PC
and Xbox 360 that casts up to four players in an epic struggle
for survival against swarming zombie hordes and terrifying
mutant monsters.
Set in the immediate aftermath of the zombie apocalypse, L4D's
survival co-op mode lets you blast a path through the infected
in four unique movies, guiding your survivors across the
rooftops of an abandoned metropolis, through rural ghost towns
and pitch-black forests in your quest to escape a devastated
Ground Zero crawling with infected enemies. Each "movie" is
comprised of five large maps, and can be played by one to four
human players, with an emphasis on team-based strategy and
objectives.
New technology dubbed "the AI Director" is used to generate a
unique gameplay experience every time you play. The Director
tailors the frequency and ferocity of the zombie attacks to
your performance, putting you in the middle of a fast-paced,
but not overwhelming, Hollywood horror movie.
Addictive single player, co-op, and multiplayer action
gameplay from the makers of Counter-Strike and Half-Life
Versus Mode lets you compete four-on-four with friends,
playing as a human trying to get rescued, or as a zombie boss
monster that will stop at nothing to destroy them.
An advanced AI director dynamically creates intense and unique
experiences every time the game is played
20 maps, 10 weapons and unlimited possibilities in four
sprawling "movies"
Matchmaking, stats, rankings, and awards system drive
collaborative play
Designer's Commentary allows gamers to go "behind the scenes"
of the game
Powered by Source and Steam
Install Notes:
1. Unpack release
2. Mount image or burn it
3. Install game
4. Play the game
