I'm too scared to update, last time I did I got the 3 red rings .... I now have a Falcon machine, but as I'm just a silver membership holder there really is no point of me updating and risking the 3 red rings again right !?!?

Just update it, the 3 red rings mean hardware failure.

The console is banned, not the gamertag. And from what I've read on the forum, using your HDD on a non-banned console works harmlessly. |

Il say this again, I played many unreleased games WHILE connected to LIVE and I never got banned. So I doubt it has something to do with playing games earlier than release date.

so how many 360s can u register under a single live ID...call me paranoid but I bought 4 rrod consoles from ebay for 100 bucks. I got the first one repaired and on its way back to me. Should I register the next one also under the same ID or create a new one? If I create a new id will i be able to use my old hd which is linked to my first Live ID on it?

Say what? You can "register" however many you want. When Micro throws bans, they're looking for modded 360's; not how many you have played (or otherwise registered) on with your gamertag.
You can use a hard drive from a previous 360 on another with no problem. However, if you create a new gamertag, all your saved game information is gone.

They only let me register 5 consoles to my main account and had to use an different account for the others.

haahaha...MS replaced the benq drive in the rrod console with a new liteon drive...guess thats how they say F**K u to me!!!!
Let me send the next one and see if it has better luck....

If they replace the drive, its not because theyre trying to fuck you over. When they replace your motherboard, they HAVE to replace the drive as well.

Yes and you can still replace the drive by spoofing the drive key into a new drive so you win either way.

erm....no.
They'll only change the DVD drive if they need to. They'll replace the motherboard if they need to. They won't replace things that don't need replacing.
I sent a flashed Samsung xbox to them as it had 3rrod. They sent me back the same console (case, dvd drive) and had replaced the mobo (and put a nice new MS warranty sticker on)

They have been changing all consoles sent in for repair to LITEON drives since about march here.

I am really tempted to do the drive spoofing, but I am horrible with soldering, so I am staying off...I almost turned a wii into a 250 dollar plastic box when I last tried soldering!!!!
