Exactly. Some of his more recent (and more mature and serious) roles have been fantastic. He's just too much of a playboy in the Bond movies, that somehow doesn't seem to fit the whole superspy feel.
He seemed like a playboy because his role was written that way. The quality of the bond-movie scripts declined at a fast rate after Goldeneye (which was great IMO). Brosnan had the bad luck to play bond at the wrong time.
With the Casino Royal remake, the producers tried to get back some of the old bond feeling, like a real spy movie instead of a explosion-and-CGI-blockbuster. This is what makes the movie good, not Daniel Craig. He was just picked because he was unknown and cheap at this time (like the other bond actors). Casino Royal with Brosnan would have been just as good due to the great script.

Although I like rock music and especially audioslave, "you know my name' is not audioslave and not soundgarden... It's just some tuneless mainstream crap.
For me the best bond song, Is "goldeneye" by Tina Turner.
