The trailer looks pretty epic, not sure about the plot/myth as to regards or the year 2012. But it's an Emmerich film so expect "awesome" SFX .

Let's see if he can get back to good disaster movies after the atrocity that was 10,000 BC.

It's Roland Emmerich. Uwe Boll on a big budget.

This will be utter shit just as everything else he has produced(granted I did like Stargate).

Found Godzilla,The Patriot and Independence Day pretty entertaining. To compare him twith Boll is not really fair. He does big scope matinee flicks, no more no less.

All those movies sucked. The Patriot sucked a bit less than the others, but still sucked a lot. I think the comparison is pretty good, tbh. They are the hacks of each genre.

What quality do they have besides expensive effects and mindless action? Dialogue is so over the top in every single movie, and every single one of them plays on whatever role the actor has played in movies before it(Will Smith, Mel Gibson, Matthew Broderick). I'll admit I liked Independence Day when it came out. I was 10 years old.

That's the whole point, there is no intention for Oscar material there, just plain mindless action...nothing wrong with that. As I said "Big scope matinee flicks"

I wish people without any computer knowledge would stop using things like virus attacks etc in their movies. The whole upload a virus to the mothership in Independence day idea was laughable, they should've just attached a nuke to the alien ship, fly it to the mothership and nuke it to hell. Add Jeff Goldblums char as the co-pilot and give him a reason to tag along.

i was joining into the conversation with the southpark line that made fun of the hollywood movie.

Emmerich isn't BAD. He's better than Bay. Im looking forward to this one. I seen the trailer like 2 months ago or was it a teaser. That ripped off Kubrick's shinning. But still was dope. Very Happy

and that's why nerds will never make good movies.

A LOT OF PEOPLE DON'T KNOW SHIT ABOUT HACKING.
By a lot i mean like around 95% Shocked

They're just movies. Suspension of disbelief. You watch a movie to get away from a shitty day at the job. To relax. To have fun. To get lost.

It seemed like a smart idea to me to hack a ship. A nice kick to the nuts by the earthy people. A nuke is jush meh. Solves too much of everything.

All of Emmerich's movies have flaws in the story but do you seriously care? A movie about aliens. A movie where planet freezes in 4 days. Logical or not, his movies are far more interesting than some of the shit that's out there. Even transporter 3 was disappointing. And if you disappoint in a movie where a guy stood during a plane crash or where a guy drove a car in the air just to detach a bomb. Like... ARGH! Crying or Very sad

Emmerich is all about entertainment and good ol fun.

Got nothing to do with being nerdy, but seems better to simplify the plot without using gimmicks like hacking etc
Theres a difference between suspension of disbelief and stupid gimmick plot details.
Wasnt it weird to first upload the virus and then nuke the ship anyway. Why not just nuke it and let the fat lady sing...

The shield was administrated from the mother ship. No mother ship = no shield.

Yes he was, and the nukes didn't have any effect on the ships at all.

Seems a few missed my point completely. I meant when Will Smith and Jeff Goldblum piloted the old alien ship and docked with the mothership. They were carrying a nuke, and my question was why they needed to upload the virus at all. Just fire of the nuke and destroy the mothership. Theres no need to include such a silly plot detail.

Yeah, but not an INTERNAL SHIELD as they were inside it when they fired of the nuke Razz

In the movie Independence Day, alien invaders are successfully repelled when plucky geek Jeff Goldblum uploads a computer virus to the alien mothership, disabling the attacking ships' protective force fields and allowing the combined military of the entire world to take them all down at once.

The used the virus to disable the attack ships, but if they'd just fired of the nuke while inside the mothership, they would've achieved the same thing.
