that fixed worked fine, however i still get some errors while in game (can't find actor, can't find sound, etc....) and gameplay just stops.

is it the next steam update that has hammer editor in it? (the one released since proto 7)

not quite sure if thats steam dependant or not.
if it is they need to make a VENG update pronto Very Happy

cannot install
Half- Life_2_and_CS_Source_Protocol_v7_Update-VENGEANCE

always get error:

cannot update because .... .gcf unknown version
(i.e. half-life 2 content.gcf unknown version)


this is crazy:

i have a fresh formated hd.
i installed Half-Life_2_DVD_Retail-VENGEANCE fine. (and also finished game with zero error).


for some reason, this shitty installer checks my files and always says unknown gcf

i reinstalled hl2 now several times (yes i also did hl2install.exe and cssinstaller.exe , otherwise the protocol7 update wont install at all) !

always get this error!

anyone else had this error, or knows a solution?

you have to apply the hl2install.exe and the cssinstaller.exe from the vengeance DVD (or the 5cd release) after installing first,

after this u can apply the protocol7 update.

it works--the dvd version---read all instructions carefully!
u should get NO errors.
Install Hl2, then Update 7. then DM, then Patch#3-in that order! no worries, no problems.. Saves Fine, Online/offline works..Make sure u edit ini file in BOTH DM and CS and thats it! happy Playing thanks to vengence!
