Buggy!? I remember Mafia was such a great game, and optimized too, especially when compared to GTA3, which was an abomination when it came to the engine itself.

Hmm, I don't know I had a pretty good system back then, and GTA3 was stuttering like hell. Mafia on the other hand looked and ran fantastic.

but stuttering isnt bugs / crashes. Just not optimized very well or tough luck with some hardware incompatibilities.
Ask me about my experiences with the original half-life. Now that was buggy

I can't wait for this game. I just hope they don't make a mess of it.

I don't think they will... The things they did before were golden and they know it.

That would be a reason to mess it up.

Details about the engine, probably mostly correct but I'm unsure about the part that says DX10 only.
(It's still not profitable enough as Vista has a low market share compared to XP)

Mafia ran horribly on the hardware of that time, GTA3 on the other hand ran great. You got the two confused.

Funny, me and my friends had pretty much the opposite experience. Never had problems with Mafia, but GTA3 on the other hand...

lol @ dx10 only. I predict another game that will blame piracy for its bad sales. That article has to be wrong. Decent studios realise dx10 is an extra, not the main feature.

Mafia looked better so it was more demanding but still the optimization was not a problem at least I didn't have any.

Meh not a big deal, anyway... Not like dx10 effects are in any way vastly different to what dx9 can offer. Most people can't even tell the difference. Good that they support it, tho.

Support it? It says DX10 ONLY no dx9 whatsoever. I hope it's not true..

Mafia got a little slow when the going got tough, but on GTA3 it jumped and stuttered on normal casual driving with nothing special happening, didnt matter how powerful processor or graphic card I had, maybe they fixed it in some update but I quit playing it after couple trys, mafia I played through and it was one of the best games ever made..

Mafia was an excellent game. It was the perfect mix of gaming fun with movie magic. Maybe to slow for some but I appreciated some of the realistic flavors such as the old slow cars, music, scenery, sights and sounds. I enjoy the Grand Theft Auto series sandbox style and Mafia did a great job of bringing that to the 1930s. I would hope they would add on to that in Mafia 2 as Rockstar added to the GTA franchise in GTA IV.

it was actually a fairly linear game merely set in a gta-like free world
which would make a lot of linear games more playable in my book

well , i wouldnt say that , i figure by the time it'll be released on the PC most riggs should have DX10 cards on them , if not , they ought to
if i remember right , devs said that they'll release the console versions first for feedback and if they're pleased then they'll make a PC version , so , if the console version will be released next year , maybe the PC will see shelves sometime during early 2010 , and by that time DX9 will/should be absolete
PS
i find it rather respectfull for their product , rather than fuck up the PC version , they'd fuck up the console versions and do it right on the PC
