A head honcho for BFME over at EA had this to say:
Quote: | Folks,
Some of you have been asking about post product support for B4ME, especially given the notes that we are thinking of an expansion pack and working on RA3.
Rather than get into arguments and debates about how much support there has been on Red Alert 2 or Generals and then whether people will be happy with support for B4ME, I thought I would give a bit of the bigger picture going forward.
The key thing to note is that we're going to have a dedicated team for B4ME going forward. This differs from our past process of having a our one team jump from product to product(i.e. Red Alert 2, Yuri's, Generals, Zero Hour, B4ME). The very nature of having this team means that the landscape for support and development of B4ME games has changed from how things have worked in the past.
Next thing, is that we are going to support the product (and already have) because we know it's important and it's the right thing to do.
Because the product has been out for about a day, it's too early to outline all of the things we have planned and instead I suggest to everyone that they just watch and participate in the support going, giving feedback about things you appreciate as well as things you don't appreciate.
For those of you who are skeptics or like to post negative comments about everything(especially those posting from guest accounts), you should watch and keep a record of the things we've done and then post those with your comments and conclusions. You guys can do a great service to the community by helping to ensure that everyone is exactly aware of what's really happening or not.
Hope this helps explain the bigger picture for everyone.
Basically, the time for words and debates support has past. Instead, we'll let our actions speak for themselves.
Have fun,
Mark |
I guess they want to make amends for their past horrid support.. do we believe them?

Wow that sounds exactly like what happened in Generals too.
I think it was caused by switching your cd key after you installed. You didn't edit your cd key in the registry or anything did you?

If it's what I think it is (relating to the Generals thing long ago) a re-install was the only way to fix it.

To tell you the truth the only thing I remember was back in Generals all of peoples' buildings would explode after like 3 minutes of playing.
I don't remember that exact cause, something about the registry I think, but I could be wrong.
The only thing I remember to help it was to re-install.
Of course this problem could be something else, so.. I dunno, could happen again, not sure why it even happened to you two at all.
So good luck with it. Hopefully someone else has a better answer.

i wonder why so many are bitching about the lack of strategy.. did anyone at all complain at lack of strategy for any blizzard rts games? even back then they had deep, involving strategy games, believe it or not, of course most were turn-based games which of course require patience. and personally i think this game blows warcraft3 out of the water as far as fast-paced rts go with a focus on story and heros-an rts with a bit of rpg. anyways This is not ROME:tw people, get over it.
and as far as bad developers/publishers go, ea is definitely Not the worse. would jowood or atari or activision do any better job with the lotr liscence? i dont think so. their products would be bugged so bad it wouldnt be playable. at least ea games are playable, if not totally unique and filled with character-these days you have to look to some small russian dev for that.
anyways i would recommend this game to anyone, especially taking into account 2 massive campaigns and a very decent multiplayer. they just need a few patches to get multiplayer better running and put in a few more options and its a classic. also did anyone check out all the ini files inside the big file? you can edit almost EVERYTHING about this game. oh and plus you can extract all the lotr music..rock on.

Ok,
Anyone Having USB problem with this game? Everytime I play this game my Logitech MX500 keep disconnecting/reconnecting. So to mouse freeze while I'm playing the game and I need to reconnect it or restart the game. This is VERY annoying. I tried different USB Port...
I have a CLEAN WindowsXP SP2 install from yesterday, With lastest VIA Hyperion Driver,
1GB Muskin PC 3200,
ATI X800XT, Catalyst 4.12Beta
Athlon64 3200+,
I don't have the USB to PS/2 adapter to try if the problem persist in PS/2 mode. And I don't have the "MouseWare" driver from logitech installed... I just hate these driver since MOUSE4 & MOUSE5 doesn't work in the majority of my games.

pallebrun wrote: | Hmm I havent had time to try this yet but is this game a story driven game, much like warcraft 3 with heroes and crap?
I thought it was going to be a classic strategy game like warcraft 2 or the command & conquer games and not something like warcraft3 which i thought sucked badly. |
Well, the Good side follows (for the most part) the travels of the Fellowship. There are some classic "build a base, build an army, slaughter the other d00d" missions in between the familiar travels of the Fellowship.
I don't get what your comparison is though, even Command & Conquer had a story...
As far as heroes, yes they are there. They gain ranks, which could be compared to levels, and as they gain rank they gain more special abilities. There has been a hero in every level I've played so far.
In the skirmish missions, and in MP, your main building can pump out the heroes, comparable to WC3 I guess.
So if you're looking for straight standard RTS, I guess you won't find it because of the heroes.
Not sure what you meant by the story driven part.... Hopefully I said something useful back there.

Ah I get it. Yah it is not set up a base and fight every mission. There are always different objectives going on.
There are some build a base and fight missions though.
Sorry to hear you won't be bothering with this, it is extremely enjoyable, but if you're not into heroes then you aren't into heroes.
Hopefully the next C&C game that just got announced will do it for ya.

We are trying to connect using GIT. |
Why not use BattleLan? That should work! Plus.. BfmE, like Generals/ZH wasn't really Router/NAT friendly.. ya have a Router/NAT? If so, try removing it from the system and connect directly to your high-speed connection then try.

How would that even work? You'll never be able to log in to their official service with a cracked copy, and LAN should already work.
Not much they can crack.

Don't you have to pay for kali to get it to run custom games? I swear I tried to use kali once and it was like "unregistered version not allowed to run custom games!" or something like that.
Are we thinking of the same kali?
My friend and I are about to try battleLAN 0.5.

So close with battleLAN but no cigar.
We were able to see the game, and join, but we couldn't hear eachother in the chat room and we were not able to start the game.
One of us is stuck behind a router, and we forwarded ports 8088 THROUGH 28088 as it mentions these ports in the README.
Couldn't get it working though. I bet if we were both on pure connections (not behind router or anything) it would work. But as it stands, we couldn't figure out the port forwarding crap to work with battleLAN.

And you probably won't get it to work either behind a Router/NAT! Remember, Generals/ZH and how bad that was for Routers/NAT? Blame EA for such absolutely shiet netcode as per usual. They just reuse the crap from before kuzz its cheaper than investing in new net technology.
Anyway try this (it may work as it does for DoW's nasty NAT problems when trying to connect with more than 3 players in DirectIP):
Used Router(s): Linksys 4 or 8 Port - should also work with D-Link/Netgear or most modern day Routers/NATs!
a) Go to http://www.whatismyip.com/ to get your WAN IP address (you can also get this in your Router).
b) Log into your Router and get the Router's Gateway and DNS entries.
c) In your Windows 2000/XP, Go to your Network Connections Area then Local Area Connection, then TCP/IP..
d) Click SPECIFY and add IP of, say, 192.168.1.20 (for example)
e) Subnet should be 255.255.255.0
f) Gateway should be 192.168.1.1 (or whatever the IP is to log into your Router/NAT or what your wrote from b)
g) DNS should be the two entries you wrote down from b) OR just leave the second DNS entry blank
h) Now click advanced and under IP click ADD then add the IP you wrote down from a). Subnet is not important. Click OK
i) Go back into your Router and under the DMZ specify the IP you used in d)
j) Done!
Now, essentially, what you did was fool the game into using the LOWER IP address (you real WAN IP) instead of the higher one (192.168.xxx.xxx LAN IP) which is where some games screw up when NATs are involved. Stupid? Yes. Developer laziness and failure to acknowledge that most people these days WILL use NATs especially due to increased hackers on the Net? MOST DEFINITELY!
It is KEY that your WAN IP (mine starts with 70.xxx.xxx.xxx) is lower than your Router's LAN IP (usually 192.xxx.xxx.xxx) for this to work. If yer running DSL you may have a higher WAN IP. In this case, you'll need to force your WAN IP lower down passed the LAN IP. I've heard it can be done but since I don't own DSL I cannot experiment.
Note: Ensure no OS firewalls are running when running this! When updating to WinXP SP2 a firewall is automatically set to run so ensure its OFF!
The key thing is the ability to log into your Router and not only get the info from b) but to set the IP you specify to the DMZ.
*NOTE*
Make sure after playing yer game you disable DMZ in your Router! You don't want to be in the DMZ thus allowing possible net attacks to befall you! A friendly reminder!
