Me too. We are living the times where every game is dumbed down arcade piece of shit so this really shows up. There's nothing like this released in a period of 5 years.

This has to be the best helicopter ever. A few months ago i met a developer at a flightsim convention where the game was being showcased. A quick flight in a gameseat with Trackir convinced me into buying this game, even while i couldn't land the helicopter properly because of the depth of the simulation on "hardcore mode". Razz

Bought it. These guys deserve the support - even if I'm too stupid and impatient to actually learn how to fly the damned thing. There community also seems to be one of the most helpful and supportive out there.

Don't throw your towel yet. Wink

When you install this the installer asks you if you want to enable "game" mode. After that the game is like any console game. Eveything is super easy. You see enemies and can lock on to them with single button press. Also flying is easy. No wind, turbulence or anything. The chopper will go where you want it to go. And if you want later more realism you can turn on the full flight/avionics model later.

Here's a crappy youtube video demonsrating game mode.

Really? Awesome. Might give it a go and see if I like it if it has an arcade/"game" setting.

Cuz like I said, me and authentic flight sims dont mix at all.

I played MS Flight Sim one time....couldnt even take off for like 20 mins and then I'd spend like 30 secs in the air and nose dive into a crash lol
I suck so badly at flight sims.

EDIT

Watched the vid and it seems ok. It reminds me of tht PS(1) game where you fly an apache and do missions and shit. Cant remember the name of it. Loved that game. Spent many an hour playing it.

Spent 8 hours today learning all the knobs and switches necessary to go from a cold start to taxi-ready, and then going from having landed to turning everything off. It's a 52 step process in case anyone is interested Very Happy.

It finally felt so good to be able to do it all from memory, it was worth it Smile

I bought it as well, actually twice. I've had the Russian version for quite a bit and then picked up the english version when it was recently released. The Russian version was only $25 bucks, let me get a jumpstart and I didn't mind supporting ED.

They're planning a 9 month cycle for releasing other "modules". The A-10 is next, then I believe the AH-64 Apache. I forget what else they're planning to add, but it should make for interesting MP when you can mix up different aircraft in a detailed sim like this.

Yeah I'm looking forward to all of em, 3D clickable cockpit is a huge leap for flight sims IMO, I've been playing them forever. It's really amazing with TrackIR, for me the head tracking really improves my depth of field, but being able to use 6DOF to look around the cockpit & quickly hit buttons & flip switches brings a whole new level to sims IMO. I'm glad that ED decided to incorporate this to the level they did with DCS.

Don't understand that 'modules' thing, supposedly they will have the same price as the full game.

I say "modules" because they each are fully detailed sims for the titled aircraft built with the DCS engine. Thing is if one person has the A-10 "module" and one has the Ka-50/Black Shark one, they can still play together. I have no problems paying full price for each sim when they are each done to the level of the Ka-50. Being able to use them in the same game is just a bonus, a huge bonus IMO.

Well we might as well call them 'full games that are compatible with each other in multi'. Maybe they should be cheaper if all they add is one detailed, drivable, aircraft built one the same engine with basically no extra features.

It's not as if its expensive as it is - and the market is so small for these kind of games that imo its hard to lower the price.

Also, the detail level of the vehicles you drive are extra ordinary - so impressive imo that they are the ones that sets the price of the game rather than the graphics/sounds.

The module thing will be good for longevity. Nothing worse than cutting off one community from the other with new game releases... but I really don't like the A-10 Very Happy

Have to look at this after Christmas, being strapped for cash. Be interested in any reviews from the sim community?

Why does my terrain not look that fucking good?

Also, why are they doing the A-10? That was already done to death in Lock-On. What ever happened to front-seat/back-seat multiplayer? I thought that was supposed to be implemented as well. They ought to do a 2-seater aircraft.

Quick question - if I switch from default to outside view and back, I can no longer look around with my mouse. If I hit Alt+C I can look around, but my little yellow cursor is gone and I can't click the cockpit switches any longer. How do I get my yellow cursor back? Sad

Turn on the real avionics Wink

That is a feature of easy avionics. you must press Alt+C to get yellow cursor and again to disable it.

And what comes to detail. Have you forced 16xqAA and 16xAF.
