|
 |
It seems that L4D fucked up my fonts in Vista and I now get errors from different programs trying to use arial etc.. I would really appreciate any help someone can offer in order to fix this so I don't have to reinstall Vista from scratch.. I uninstalled L4D after trying it as I didnt even like it and didnt notice the problem with fonts until later today..

Um. Ouch.
Looks like you got stung by Skidrow's bug. The only option I've seen is to replace the entire FONTS folder in the Windows directory.

That would work, if I had a way to extract the original fonts from the vista install dvd package file of 4gb somehow.. :/
Anyone know how to extract files from install.wim on the dvd?

Use this app to "take control" of any system locked/protected files .. and then boot into Safe Mode to do the replacement.

There is alos this;

to restore the font files.open your font folder right click and choose install fonts, select all and install no need to overwrite all so click no 200 odd times till done restart........this will reinstall the fonts

Stolen off the comments on a download site.

OK I managed to fix my Vista Fonts without System restore. Just reallocated the fonts using this reg file: http://rapidshare.de/files/41124025/FontsFix.reg.html I hope I've helped you. If you don't trust the content of the file - just check it with any text editor before importing it into the registry.

Here's the contents of the .reg

Does this happen in XP too?? I backed up my fonts folder when I heard about this just in case, but am not sure if XP gets the bug too?

I already have the 360 one and I'm struggling to find a reason (other than mouse/keyb controls) to have another one. I've done the same with quite a few games lately and, to be honest, it's just wasting HDD space.
Dead Space. Got both PC and 360. Why!?
Far Cry 2. Got both PC and 360. Why!?
GTA IV. Got both PC and 360. Why!?
Fallout 3. Got both PC and 360. Wh.... ok, mods and sexy graphics and keyb/mouse controls justify that one. |
haha your like me, i buy the same game for my ps3 and pc. I most buy the game for my PS3 so when my niece or nephew come over, we play videogames all nite and both of them like shooters and bourne conspiracy type games.
And its good whne friends come over and wanna play vids. That way they dont have to go near my comp

You're the only person in the world then .. because Skidrow themselves issued an apology about it. It's a known bug in the uninstaller and it happens to everyone.

My fonts on XP were messed up after uninstalled Left 4 dead. Thanks Sabin for the Fontfix.reg file. After reboot, fonts were back to normal!

Glad I could help!
I've finally gotten around to buying the ORIGINAL now, so I guess I won't have to worry about this anymore.

I also have GTA4 and Fallout3 installed. According to previous post, it says those cause same issue. Ill be keeping this fix around just in case.
Left 4 Dead was a great game...for mulitplayer. I had fun playing single player for awhile, but then got bored as it definately needed to be online. When I noticed all the levels are unlocked at the start, SP mode did not present a challenge. Great game, just for MP though..
