why would you lose access to the games you had already paid ? I decided not to buy any more games from steam (not as long as its more expansive as retail) , but that doesn't mean i won't play the games i already own lol.

If I lose my net connection and there isn't a saved offline profile, the games are as good as gone.

I dislike being held captive like that.

This is great, games are cheaper now.
Sacred 2 was $49.99 last night, thats £32.52 + vat = £37.40
Now its £26.99 and includes the vat saving me £10.41

Um. How do you work THAT out?

If it was £37 last night, it's just gone UP £10... silly.

49.99 EUR

=

47.4739 GBP

€49.99

Oh yes because its the average American's fault Rolling Eyes Also I recall the € was about equal to two $'s at one time so it looks like your currency's worth isn't doing to hot itself right now.

Anyways I do believe its bullshit what steam did to you guys. But to be honest their prices are generally horrible in the first place. If you really must get a game on steam or take advantage of a weekend deal then find a American friend who is willing to do it for you and simply have them gift it. I guess that what I will be doing quite often for my European friends on steam as I happen to be in a clan member on a European CS:S server.

For me, it's always been that games were a bit more expensive via Steam than buying it retail but there were other benefits and it usually was only about 40 - 50 SEK more.(Roughly four euros.)

Did a comparison on Sacred 2 with this game (One of the most expensive Steam titles aside from packs at 49.99 euros, same price as with quite a few other recent titles as well such as CoD 5 and GTA IV.)

Result was that the retail store copy costs about 399 (33.22 EU) SEK whereas the Steam copy costs 600 (49.99 EU) SEK.

Quite a difference and hopefully it'll stabilize itself or something.

Problem is you are attempting to argue about shit you obviously don't even understand..
Getting to a pissing contest about who's currency is worth what is like grasping at straws.
But anyone with half a brain can clearly see that the Euro has lost a significant amount of its value vs the USD and other major currencies over the past year.

Here's a pretty picture to help you understand better:

Seriously, starting that kind of argument is tardy (meant the Dollar Vs. Euro thingy) since people in EU still get punched in the ballsack by Steam (everyone besides the UK that is).

I agree, they had pretty high prices before where I hesitate a couple of times buying it online...now they kinda pushed me over to just buying retail boxes. Good way to lose a paying customer. -.-

But then i don't understand why anything like beta testing was here. This is exactly thing which should be done in beta - if you make extremly high prices, then correct it before you release them to public.

Quote:
Im guessing the main function of the beta was to resolve any technical issues. As JM outlined, the pricing is an on-going issue.

I am not saying that I myself am over the moon with these changes, but we should certainly allow Valve times to make the prices more balanced if needs be.

I'm sorry, but what are you on about? Do you understand it? The Dollar has tanked against the euro in the past few weeks and is now at more or less the same point that it was at the beginning of the year.....Even your graph shows this.

Anyway, back on topic - I feel it is slightly unfair shafting of the European market.

THats why I will always buy my games at a gaming store.
Less problems and you get the box, inserts, manual + nowadays they usually come with a poster or a conceptual artwork book or something.

Never have bought a game off the net/steam, never will.

First off the dollar only started to tank after the fed cut rates again this week.
The graph is a dollar to Euro graph and it shows the Dollar is still up over 10% from the lows it hit this summer. . But like I said arguing about it is idiotic... Because to the average person (in the US or Europe) it makes no fucking difference what the EU/USD exchange rates are.

"The prices are so high because people pay for games"... Best explanation in 2008. Laughing

No. . . I wasn't talking about your spelling.
It was your generalized idiotic name calling that caught my attention.
By the way, you spelled acknowledgment wrong and american should be capitalized.

How bout that "tanking dollar" ?

"Dollar Posts Biggest Daily Gain in 2 Months vs. Euro "

The U.S. dollar posted its largest daily gain in almost two months against the euro Friday, after traders said the greenback's slump earlier this week may have been overdone.

That's why shit talking about currency value is fucking dumb..
