What I would really like to know is why the hell do only 3 things move up the Vram needed? The res , the textures, and the view distance. How could everything else even on their highest settings have no effect whatsoever on the Vram. The damn games gotta be lying.

Double 'm', my friend, double 'm'.
In other news, who needs copy protection when you can make your release 50GB in size? ;( (still not done downloading...)

Since day one, even after patching, I've been getting the "out of video memory" error! Fuck I have a Geforce GTX 280 OC, q6600, and 4gb of ddr2. I should be able to play the game at least. But no, every 30 minutes of gameplay the game crashes with that error msg, especially when i try and save at the safehouse. And now the textures are all messing up.
I even bought the damn game. What a mistake that was! And companies honestly wonder why people pirate games? Who the fuck wants to spend $50 on a game that doesn't work properly!

Bloom settings were discussed previously, done by editing the GTA IV/common/data/visualsettings.dat file (Near the bottom of it, three values.)
Tools can also be used (Via a loader program on the GTA forums editing section.) to "disable" shadows, lighting, distant objects, cars, pedestrians and pretty much everything else but it doesn't fully disable objects and instead just seems to "hide" them as performance remains more or less unaffected.

What exactly is the difference between Lowest/Med/High Textures ???
I mean the render/process makes the textures look better on higher/highest...
I mean you turn "object visibility=100" and STILL dont see objects better in the background IF you have "visibility" on 1... Also it makes the Bloom better and Shadows more visual further away...
Totally wacky options I think... They dont make sense to me pee brain...

View distance is pretty generous in how far you can push it so after a certain point only smaller objects will be revealed.
Distance between 30% (My current setting to avoid RESC10 errors.) and 100% for me is a bunch of visible antennae on the far away buildings on the horizon.

The view distance is pretty odd. I set mine way low in hopes the game would run better that failed but it honestly didn't really affect the gameplay for me. I care about performance more than looks and sadly this game fails at both.

.... why the fuck shouldn't they count?
What a preposterous statement. DC processors make up the lion's share of the desktop market -- and single-core procs no doubt outnumber quads too, so optimising the game solely for a specification that is in the MINORITY is pretty fucking stupid .. and defending that logic is stupid on a level I can't even begin to express.
