I think not. Riddick has its place but D3 and HL2 are still champions.
Don't forget that the Riddick engine is only modified Starbreeze (think Soldier Of Fortune/Quake 3 modified), whereas the d3 and hl2 engines are new unto themselves.

I agree with the first statement but ah... d3 is modified q3a engine, sir. Also HL2 has it's roots in quake1 (which you can tell from the way it handles fps-slowdowns and air control). Every engine is a modified something, and the starbreeze engine is one I cant place to have any roots in a quake game. Peace,

no, no, no....
I don't know if I've made this clear enough, but I was making reference to the Starbreeze engine being a modified Enclave engine... kinda like the SOFII engine was a modified Quake III engine... no assn between the two.
Both HL2 and D3, though, are new engines unto themselves, which justifies the devtimes.
I also respect Valve for making a good game and not just a techdemo out of their engine. iD I can't say the same for. DIII was a $50 techdemo. But both Carmack and Valve get my respect in the engine's aspect... Carmack because he pretty much single-handedly justified the $50, Valve because my hat goes off to the guys that modded Havok and the awesome art team.

You should check facts before posting about stuff you have no idea about.
Riddick uses the next version of the starbreeze engine, it is not a total conversion or a product made by a company leasing the starbreeze engine.

IT USES A HEAVILY MODIFIED SB ENGINE. THE ENGINE, BY THE DEVELOPER TEAM KNOWN AS STARBREEZE, IS A MODIFIED VERSION OF THE STARBREEZE ENGINE, WHICH COINCIDENTIALLY WAS USED IN THE POPULAR GAME ENCLAVE, AND MODIFIED FOR RIDDICK.
Is that enough to get through your thick skull?

Lets see.... I think I remember working for Starbreeze and I seem to remember you not doing that. Get that through your fat head.
Renderer, lighting, animations and just about everything else was rewritten for Riddick. It is the next generation of the Starbreeze engine.
So lets go through this again, not heavily modified. Rewritten.

Children, children lets all just agree that the game is great it's better than it was anticipated. And let's all thank Allah for that. This game is great. Does it matter what engine it uses? NO! It plays nice, it looks nice heck even the plot is manageable. Stop these blindness quarrels and enjoy the game and if you beat it then give me your saved game file I want to see all of the bonus content
Well, that’s enough out of me time to get back to the lifeless life I seem to have

Obviously it's more than a "mod" - carmack ofcourse added stuff to it, but it IS based on the q3a engine loosely. Peace,

You need to get sp1 or sp2 if you have xp. Check the requirements. You should also have posted it in the "pc game technical" forum. And stop writing like twit please.

oh for fucks sake.
Are you guys doing this on purpose? Confusing the engines?
Quake 3's engine is a game engine. It is a seperate entity unto itself, and is only loosely associated with the Doom 3 engine. It is not associated, a part of, derivative of, or otherwise entangled with the Starbreeze engine or the Half-Life 2 engine.
Doom 3's engine is a game engine. It is a seperate entity unto itself, and is only loosely associated with the Quake 3 engine. It is not associated, a part of, derivative of, or otherwise entangled with the Starbreeze engine or the Half-Life 2 engine.
Riddick's engine is a game engine. It is a seperate entity unto itself. It is not associated, a part of, derivative of, or otherwise entangled with the Doom 3 engine, the Quake 3 engine or the Half-Life 2 engine.
Half-life 2's engine is a game engine. It is a seperate entity unto itself. It is not associated, a part of, derivative of, or otherwise entangled with the Starbreeze engine , the Doom 3 engine, or the Quake 3 engine.
Just in case it has not been made clear enough in the last 4 pages, the Starbreeze engine is the engine behind Riddick.
