I thought something was strange when some major retailers didn't have the game for pre-order a week before release. Its still not listed on www.game.co.uk which is very unusual

Straight out of the Official Forum:
Hey all - sorry for the no replies, but I was on vacation with little access to a network.
The game will not be coming out tomorrow as many of you say, because that is the SHIP DATE, not the RELEASE DATE. Release dates are almost always on Tuesdays, which would be the 6th. With regard to the UK date on the THQ Games website, I'll ask about that when I get into the office tomorrow and everyone is back from vacation.
I have not heard a single word regarding a change in release date as of this moment. If I hear anything new tomorrow, you know I'll update everyone.
The guy is a Moderator (Community Manager). Dunno if he knows that for sure... But little info is still better than no info.

Should be correct as the US stores I've found that has info about the PC version lists it as available on the 6th, most EU store dates (Only checked UK and Swedish stores though.) either shows pre-order or coming soon whereas Swedish sites lists the 16th or 18th as the release date.
(Posted a bit about this on the previous page but checked things a bit better since then.)

Ok...will for sure check this one out. Finished GTA IV (actually started a new game...but feels like "repeat"). I guess this will be better optimized for PC, but the graphics will not be on par with GTA IV...no matter...bring it on!. The wait for ETW might seem a tad shorter at least...maybe  .

Good good, now lets wait for a scene release hope it wont take long because i wanna test it before i buy aswell.

Yup that would rock big time. Always have my Miles Davis and Marcus Miller tracks when playing GTA IV...it suits the "sky line" scenery sorta...nothing like some kick ass cool jazz when cruising around downtown Liberty City  |

NOTE:
Word from the Volition moderator is that these graphics are running on medium/low from a preview build, and are looking to get these videos replaced with proper retail version videos, which have all the effects etc as the consoles do.
"I fully agree and I'm appalled they would show our game in this light. I've contacted the appropriate people to see if we can get some higher quality videos up there to show that it is on-par with the console versions.
Just so all of you know, I've played the PC version on my machine here, and it does look the same or better than the console version, if played at the correct settings.
Just talked to a few of the V-QA people who were testing the PC version and they state the following:
- Running low to medium spec.
- No motion blur, no dynamic lighting.
- No anisotrophy filtering
- Low shadows"
