NINJA-SWITCH! repurposing this thread for ONG BAK 3 because im too lazy to make a new thread, and nobody else really gives a fuck about the ong bak movies or jaa in general...
so yeah. ONG BAK 3
DVDRIP is out. No subs yet, but who cares really, right? We're here for the action and nothing else.
Quote:
Ong Bak 3 picks up where Ong Bak 2 had left off. Tien is captured and almost beaten to death before he is saved and brought back to the Kana Khone villagers. There he is taught meditation and how to deal with his Karma, but very soon his arch rival returns challenging Tien for a final duel.
Ong Bak 2 is the working title for a Thai martial arts film directed by and starring Tony Jaa. If it retains the title, it will be a sequel in name only to the hugely popular Ong-Bak: Muay Thai Warrior.
The story is adapted from Ai Noom Saraphad Phid, a low-budget martial arts film Jaa developed with his mentor Panna Rittikrai, but was never released because it was shot on expired film stock. The action will incorporate khon, the sacred Thai masked dance. The title roughly translates to "venomous boy" and involves a character whose dark side is dominant until he's transformed by the gracious power of khon dance.

I think its safe to say a lot of people here have seen jaa's previous stuff... loved it.. and are eager for more... :
Seriously, who gives a crap about story in a movie like that, just give me a lot of kick ass fighting scenes and its all good, and thats where Tom yum goong and ong bak 1 shined. Memorable scenes are the bikers and skaters and then running on glass scene, the huge ass stair fight, and that fight in the club in ong bak 1.
In this one someone probably steals something and Tony Jaa will kick their ass and thats all i need, no sappy love story (or at least very minimal), comic relief guy is welcomed, and dudes with interesting fight styles.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.
Nice stunts - but I didnt like the "lets show the same slowmo sequence from 30 different angles" part.
they only did that to kinda show 'look ma! no strings!!!!", given that most stuff these days is faked. hopefully they wont do that... atleast not TOO much... this time round.
I actually though Warrior King was way better, his fights with the massive guy (Nathan Jones) are some of the most brutal I've seen.

uh is it my setup or are the deep black parts of the video purple'ish....did the rippers cock it up or is this just down to the high production values of thai dvds...

yeah figured as much
ok lets be fair, this film wasnt much. it was 70 minutes of FLUFF, with 15 minutes of oh my fucking god at the end. seriously, that was one of the fucking BEST fights i have ever seen on film, it was FUCKING AWESOME. but seriously, the rest was irrelivant... all other fights, with the exception of maybe the opening one at the slave place, were meh (actually i think there were only 2 other fights?)
all in all, tom yum goong has better fights, better story, better pacing, better everything, than ong bak 2 did
except that final fight, holy fuck that was awesome... lets be fair, they only tacked on that useless 70 mins just to have a film they could throw that fight into, man that was awesome. average action film, but BEST FUCKING FIGHT EVER.
also, some of the cinematography was really very nice too. not as nice as that fucking fight though, MANNNNnnnnnnn that was epic.
side notes: what the FUCK with that dance sequence. the chicks dancing bit, mainly... did they just put that in there to pump up the runtime a bit? it was so utterly dull and just sapped the energy right out of the film, and slowed what was previously a pretty well paced film, down to a total crawl.
BUT this is exactly what usually happens in these types of films... somewhere along the line the filmmaker FORGETS hes making a fucking action film, and FORGETS what hes making has no substance, and starts believing he can make it into something MORE (like one with a story, or make it dramatic or some shit - ie like how the American action movie genre mostly turned to shit in the mid 90s...) - and what happens is we get a watered down action with stupid bits in it. just wish it would have had more fights and less pointless bits... just reveled in what it was SUPPOSED to be, and just ran with the mayhem, you know?
but whatever, i guess... at least it delivered us that awesome fucking fight!!!
Was chocolate really that good? I mean was it hard and fast? Or slow...
I love movies like shinobi, fearless, Fong Sai Yuk - the legend and so on...
well, i really liked it
the story is a bit boring and a bit too much of it in my opinion, but there's a lot of great fights
and i especially liked the end fight on the side facade of a building
a lot of people got injured filming that, as you can see as the end credits roll
defo better than the first snorfest, puts all them wire flyers to shame, not saying there wasn't any in this one, at least it wasn't overused or overdone
overall great fighting flick that puts all them jet li's and jackie chans to the ground
american chan, hell no, but early chan still puts all these guys to shame
never really like li though.
??
Once upon a time in china? Fong Sai Yuk?? Those were GREAT movies!!
... btw I watched chocolate and the story was unbelievable boring and as in some other thread stated: Modern movies try to create some "deep" storys for their mindless action
The fights weren't that great either, but some of them really fucked themselves up
I read this thread before i watched the movie and it really made me think the movie was gonna be bad. But I dunno why so many people gave it bad reviews, I thought it was awesome. The cinematography was really good, and the storyline was definitley better than the first.
The only thing I could say bad about it is that it wasn't long enough...sometimes I didnt know who certain characters were or what was going on because they didn't really spend time developing characters backgrounds and connections with one another. Awesome movie though
side notes: what the FUCK with that dance sequence. the chicks dancing bit, mainly... did they just put that in there to pump up the runtime a bit? it was so utterly dull and just sapped the energy right out of the film, and slowed what was previously a pretty well paced film, down to a total crawl.

without a good storyline though, you might as well just watch a martial arts tournament. It's what keeps people who don't just want to see one choreographed fight scene after another interested - People who actually appreciate some sort of art and meaning to a film. i.e. Crouching Tiger was an action film but was also intensely profound and artistic in its storyline - thats what made it so good.
But i agree that scene was dragged out way too long. If they added some kinda variety or something it would have been nicer but it was too slow and boring.
