I read most of the Swedish newspaper sites, listen to Swedish radio P1, Radio Sthlm, P3 etc. And always Thailand comes up as the nr1 holiday target...wtf is up with that. Why are you guys so fracking horny to go there?...really!. I mean..boring flight (over 11h or so) Same boring overcrowded beaches as everywhere else. Cheap prostitutes and booze...like EVERYWHERE ESLE! what's the plot!

It's like Thailand has become the F'n NR 1 Swedish holiday paradise or somet..."If you haven't been to Phuket yet you are a looser" what's up with that?...

Thailand is also famous for lots of underage girls and cheap underage/hookers. Also the night club scene. (easy pick-ups for fun times) Maybe that is why it is a hot spot. Smile

I could be wrong tho.

Yea sure. But we are talking families with kids here...no joke, it's like some F'n epidemic or something. I can't count the amount of programs in Swedish media that have covered the Tsunami disaster or simply how "cool" it is to go to "Thailand" for a 2-3 weeks holiday...I just don't get it. Maybe it's clever marketing or somet...Thai mafia infiltrating the Swedish holiday market...I have no clue...but that is sort of how it is.

Maybe that's it. The total opposite to "Northern" culture...you are maybe on to something there...

i bet that 9/10 people would say thailand is famous for its cheap and underage hookers.
and the 10th person wouldn't know what it's famous for.

Believe me...In Sweden it's something else. It's like it is some fracking "camp/cool" reason to go there. Like I said, most ppl going there are families...WITH KIDS!

A swedish friend of mine is in Thailand right now! Also family trip. I don't think she's into underage hookers, though my credibility with such assessments isn't on a professional level.

Personal bet - I think it's the weather and the grand total sum of the price of the trip. It's expensive to go, but pretty cheap to be in Thailand. I would personally go for the underage hookers, but others might find the culture shock a welcome reprieve.

Maybe there are shady deals going on, like Thai government sponsoring some of the flights or those radio stations to broadcast their tourist propaganda.

Family (who want something new) men esp want to escape to there just for the sex I would think in terms of stats.

I bet there are lots of things for women to do too, like shopping, cheap nannies/babysitting. It is a beautiful country as well. The dollar helps too.

thai gods are always depicted with hookers and ladyboys, so, in the end, living like a god boils down to the same thing

It's more and more popular in Finland, too. I honestly couldn't care less, since I can't think of any reason I'd like to go there myself (I don't even like asian women Razz).

Me, I'd much rather visit places like Canada/USA, not the big cities or the tourist traps, but the national parks and wilderness where you can hike without anyone disturbing you.

There's just no words... Just beautiful, the mountains especially, otherwise it's pretty similar to Finland, but we just don't have the mountains here. Crying or Very sad

inz, I agree (with regards to thailand being a boring vacation)...

I'd rather go to my family roots in Lofoten, Norway than some resort in southeast Asia:

I totally agree with you (about the environment)) but so many trails here are so protected you need to reg. to even hike. The really cool ones anyway. Bowrun lakes is the big one, west coast trail, Nooka trail, cariboo trail: icefield something (i think had the 1000 steps,) movies were made of this about the gold rush.

This is why I go kayaking, no fee's. Sometimes there are tho. Public/native land, they ask for a fee for insurance and make you sign a wavier. Something small.

It's the Mallorca of the 21:st Century.

Used to be that everyone and their dog went to Mallorca.

Now it's Thailand because it's one of Asia's best tourist resorts. And plus it's got lots of cheap prostitutes. And while Swedes love to be politically correct on the surface, beneath is the burning pits of hell (I bet ya there's more frickin' pedophiles in Sweden, percentually, than any other place in the world).

I also think fisk should be unbanned.

Thai government or a group of thai hotels could be "sponsoring" (paying) radios and others in sweden.

Families going to thailand usually include a father, who might be into the cheap (underage) hookers, so that could be at least part of the decision-making factors.

Personally, I'd never go to thailand.
