I must be one of the very few who just love this game. It's pure funfunfun and no seriousness, which I've been looking for a while in a more open-ended game like this. GTA IV should have been more like this as in add features and not remove them.

GTA IV is so bland because it took all the real-estate, house customization, car customization, territorial stuff etc. away from previous GTAs. You get shit load of cash in the game and you can't even spend it in anything else than weapons (and clothes woop-dy-doo). The socialization in GTA IV could have been nice addition if it wouldn't be so in-center-of-things and more like fun minigame. As it's now I'm not so surprised if Rockstar starts to make Sims expansion packs. Rolling Eyes

Overall I've probably had more fun in the few hours I've played SR2 than in the 40+ hours I've spend on GTA IV. Driving and physics are probably the only things I like more in GTA IV than SR2.

Just my opinion/thoughts, peace. Smile

You're not the only one, mate. I'm exactly the same!

I *love* SR2 simply because it's fun -- and while GTA4 has superior graphics, the game itself is bland and incredibly dull. Story is good, miles better than SA, but the gameplay itself? Urgh, no thanks.

Yeah how dare they release a game you don't like? There are still lots of people who like it.

I like both and SR 2 is not supposed to be GTA 5, just to let you know..

Agreed, performance could be better (Disabling shadows did boost performance though, doesn't look that much worse and I'm usually above mid 20's now so that's just fine seeing as the max framerate is 32) but I'm having a really fun time playing around with the various stuff in this game like buying properties, customizing everything, doing weird missions and mini-games and just odd stuff like going crazy with other gangs or the police force.

It's not really meant to be serious compared to for example GTA IV and it doesn't take itself very seriously either, fun game though driving could be improved but it works.
(Can't handle the faster sport cars that well due to their speed but I'm getting quite good with other vehicles like boats and bikes.)

Game isn't for everyone though so I can understand why so many people dislike it. Smile

sabin1981, it seems like there are a lot of people in here who never played the original or this one on the 360. I am a huge fan of this series as well as the GTA series. I, for one, can separate the two games into different experiences and enjoy them both. So, can you explain what is so bad about the PC version?

The game *itself* isn't different, it's just the port that's broken. Performance is really bad and not just bad, but patchy too. Sometimes it runs great, but other times it's like a slideshow. There is also something definitely wrong with the driving -- it feels horrid on the PC version, so that could just be playing on the keyboard instead of the controller.

Graphics, without AA, look roughly the same - though severely unpolished.

I am enjoying the game for what it is; mindless fun that isn't to be taken too seriously. There are certainly a lot of areas that can be criticized, especially when compared to GTA, but left on its own, the game is a fun way to waist a few hours here and there.

This is obviously not considering the performance issues that the game has. There is no excuse for this, nor GTA4, to run as bad as they do on a PC with any type of significant power. Sadly, bad ports are becoming all too common nowadays. Whether you want to blame it on lazy developers, lack of care by the developers because of piracy, or whatever. The fact still remains, by the time the game makes it into our hands, however that may be, we are left with a poor experience. There are very few exceptions of a good port, DMC4 for example, but PC users are getting the short end of the stick unless the game was originally a PC title t o begin with.

PC gaming may not be dead yet, but it is limping pretty bad. As an avid PC gamer, these are sad times.

No stuttering here while driving. I have the same performance while driver and running on foot. Did you try disabling shadows?

Gah. I tried disabling shadows (which doesn't really disable them, you just get VERY low quality blob shadows instead) and the performance didn't increase enough --- ESPECIALLY while driving.

It does disable shadows. That "blob" is not a shadow, it's ambient occlusion effect. Disable that and no more "blobs". But maybe it's ATI issue then, coz as I said already I have the same fps when driving or walking.

So do you play the PC version or the console version seeing as you have both.
(Though I guess the performance issues hinder the experience a bit for the PC edition, not for everyone though but quite a few people have mentioned how bad performance is.)

PC version can be modified though, still haven't removed more shaders than the pixelation effect for streaking (Though all you'll see are a bunch of pixelated nipples and a very detailed butt, it's not exactly anatomically correct.) but it shouldn't be impossible to alter certain effects and hopefully a proper unpacker can make file editing easier.
(TexMod works for textures though but I haven't done anything with it.)

EDIT: TexMod horrors.

EDIT: And one for GTA IV
